I took the chance on this place so most of you won't have to, I stayed here April 16th to18th, 2007. A very nice place with no bedbugs stayed in a four-person room for 22 Euro a night. In Venice you literally can't beat that. I had a friend stay on the mainland at a place for 19 Euro, so for the extra 3, be on the island, and in a great place for nightlife. It did get a little loud on some nights, but you are right in the university district and there are plenty of bars around. The internet rule is a little weird, but if you need to use internet for a long time, try Cafe Blu -- it is about three minutes' walk and just buy a drink and you can use the internet for free. (Free internet is unheard of in venice, so you might as well get the beer). great pizza place in the square Pizza Al Volo, you can get a pizza for 4 euro that is more than enough for dinner. I also found that since it is in the university district, things did tend to be a bit cheaper than the rest of the city. A good fifteen minutes' walk from Piazza San Marco, but it gives you a great look of the city just walking around. Only about ten Minutes from the train station. Bed was comfortable -- i repeat in April 2007, no bedbugs in this hostel. Only complaint is there was only one bathroom on the floor for about twelve guests when fully booked. I got by ok, just get up a little early or sleep a little late. They will hold your luggage for you on the day of your departure, and very nice staff. This place is worth its cost, really more a hotel than a hostel, with a great location, and no bedbugs -- don't be afraid of this place and stay somewhere else in Venice.

I stayed here for a few days in August 2006. I was placed in the building across the plaza from the main hostel building. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that me and my travel partner were booked into a double room, instead of a dorm, but then we had to pay the double room price. The room wasn't much to write home about as it was a converted kitchen, complete with sink, tile-covered floor and walls, and a broken refrigerator. The bathroom was in even worse condition. The shower barely worked and we resorted to using the detachable showerhead in the bathtub that shot out nothing but cold water. We also noticed a sizable mushroom growing out of the corner of the bathroom across from the toilet. Mosquitoes were a problem in the evenings, but that wasn't the hostel's fault (just keep your windows closed and suffer in the evening summer heat). At least the location couldn't be beat. The plaza nearby offers some cheap food and drinks.

I booked my two nights in Venice a month before arriving. It doesn't say anywhere, but this hostel is spread over a number of buildings around the square, and many are in crappy condition, but I expected this of Venice. However, when i got to my room I realised that all the beds were taken. I went back to the desk clerk and found out he had double booked my bed. He told me to come back in two hours and see if anything became available! I couldn't believe this. The room I had been originally put in was dirty, the bathroom -- well, I was afraid for even my shoes to enter. He did end up finding a place for me, and that room turned out to be much better. But be warned of this occurrence!

We stayed there two nights. Fantastic location. But the first night, we were eaten by bedbugs. We told them and they changed our room where we were eaten too in our second and scratchy night in Venice. They've got a plague and the did nothing to compensate us for that.

Stayed in the residence opposite the hostel main building which was a surprise to me. The staff did their job and answered all queries when asked but nothing over and above the call of duty. The hotel/hostel is found in a lively square and provides a great base to explore the rest of Venice including not being too far away from bus station and boat stops. I shared a dorm room with three others and sheets were clean and extra blankets provided in the room. No wardrobe just a stand-up clothes rail to hang garments. Security fairly good and never worried about my luggage in the room whilst out. Vouchers obtained for coffee and cake in the money not worth bothering about but at least they gave them to me. I've been in hostels whose staff don't even provide you with them so no complaints there. Don't expect the Savoy. It's well priced, clean, safe, and quiet considering the square it's in. Furthermore, I liked the fact that there was not many tourists about, just locals, which is a real bonus.

This place was by far the worst we stayed in, so I was surprised by all the positive reviews. We must have been really lucky with our other hostels. There were just so many bugs everywhere. We were put in the building across the square from the main building, and there was no hot water at all. just freezing cold showers, which you can get used to actually. but the worst was seeing cockroaches crawling on the beds. and being bitten by bed bugs everywhere. you think that this shouldn't really matter, but it really affects your stay there if you are itchy and uncomfortable. we definitely could not sleep at night because of all the bugs. but it is in a convenient location, and maybe if you stay in the main building it is different.

This hostel is conveniently located for exploring Venice because of the Ca' Rezzonico vaporetto stop. The shared quad room was clean, quiet, and comfortable with large windows and a fan. The reception was friendly, funny, and helpful. The campo is a fun and lively place in the evenings with many choices for food including a cheap, but good pizzeria (3.80 euros for a large slice of pizza and a beer). An excellent supermarket is just around the corner with everything you could ever need- food, deli, toiletries, cheap water, and wine!

We arrived and were told that we would not be staying in the main hostel but in a residences across the square. The building we were given a room in was horrible. Very secluded and smelled bad. The room itself was ok except the sink was not connected to plumbing and just freely spilled all over the floor. The internet access was not available and the staff was not helpful but the price was right and the room clean and dark. The location was amazing and we really enjoyed the area.

I was afraid I wouldn't find a good hostel in Venice, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Most importantly, it's located in Campo Santa Margherita, a vibrant square with a fruit market, cafes and a supermarket, and at night it becomes a happenin' place with college-age locals. Actually, it's the only place in Venice with any semblance of a nightlife, because this beautiful city turns into a ghost town at night. The office for the hostel is above a wonderful restaurant (go here for dinner, the food is much better than the other touristy restaurants, who will rip you off), but you actually stay at another building across the square. So it feels like you have your own apartment. In the morning, you get a meal ticket to have a small breakfast (croissant and an amazing cappuccino) at a real cafe in the square. During the night, I was eaten alive by mosquitoes, but this is more a Venice issue (because of the canals) than a problem with the hostel — just keep your windows closed at all times. The bathrooms were fine (quite huge, actually), but there was a problem with hot water in the bathroom on my floor (the other floors had hot water, though, so it's probably an isolated problem).

This was a great place to stay in Venice. It's in a good location, and we had a small apartment in his other building. It was clean and the hosts were very helpful. Ask about the breakfast, it is included. Venice was enchanting!

First of all the toilet is very fantastic, like in a five star hotel. There also is the Jacuzzi but I didn't try it. The bedroom was okay. Breakfast was served by the next cafe near the hostel. So you must ask for the ticket in the reception. 4 stars!

Great hostel! It has two different buildings, so don't be surprised if you are sent to your room down the street and over a bridge. They were great on service and our room was clean! This is not a typical youth hostel, though, so don't expect a social atmosphere or a gathering place. This is more of an economy hotel. Also it's in a great location!

The staff are friendly in this below-average hostel but the mosquitoes are friendlier! Yes, the location is good but otherwise this hostel gets a big thumbs-down. I guess we should have figured out we were in trouble when we entered our room to find it wallpapered with smashed pieces of dead bugs. (In the middle of the night I awoke frantically to apply insect repellant because I was being eaten alive.) The bathroom was small and grubby and our shower was broken (although the staff did fix it quickly). The breakfast that others have commented on included one pastry and a cup of coffee — very underwhelming. I would rather have had a mosquito net than their free Internet: It didn't work most of the time anyway. Bottom line: Avoid.

It is very clean and has marble floors. Security is great. For some reason the hotel manager didn't inform me or some other guests about procedures for the free breakfast. He doesn't seem to communicate although he speaks perfect English. All other hostels and hotels gave me coupons upon check in for breakfast. These people did not. He appears reluctant to follow through with promises.

I stayed here from March 3rd to March 5th. It was easy to find, even though I didn't have a map. You just get off from the vaporetto [water taxi] in Ca'Razzonico. The location is EXCELLENT, the square is lovely even though it was snowing like crazy, but snow in Venice — what else can you ask for!!! The 15 minute per day rule of the use of the Internet, I did not like it, because sometimes there was no one around. I think it should be more flexible. The staff sometimes were nice, and sometimes weren't, but at least they answered all my questions, unlike other hostel workers I have encountered in my life. The problem was the petty breakfast — a coffee and a croissant. However, it was the only real Venetian coffee shop I was in and I got to see a British actor in it.
