Highbridge House - Uptown

Good staff, but have no power. Management is poor.
I was supposed to have a private room with a desk, single bed, and a chair. Highbridge House screwed this up and just gave me a room with just a bunk bed. The person on staff didn't know anything about this, but he said that he would get on it. He did, but management was incredibly hard to get a hold of and they rarely actually came to the building. The average staff is part-time and don't have authority to do much. It took two weeks of badgering management to get everything. They never apologized and they never offered to discount my room. The building looks like it was designed to be an apartment building and not a youth hostel. This means narrow stairways (especially if you are dragging your luggage up the fourth floor), a single bathroom (one toilet, one shower that you share with everyone) on each floor, and the kitchen is literally right next to the dorm beds (with the exception of the kitchen on the first floor). On the plus side, the building does have a nice lounge which pretty much stays open twenty-four hours. The neighborhood isn't the safest or most interesting place. However, the hostel is only two blocks from the subway. Most guests will likely be fine if they exercise common sense. In closing, the staff at Highbridge are very nice. However, the property is poorly managed. Highbridge isn't a bad place if you just want a cheap dorm bed for one night. The beds aren't great, but they have no curfew and reasonable check-out times. If you want anything beyond that, go somewhere else.

Great Place to stay
It's a Great location. The hostel is one of the best where I ever stayed. Bryan is a really nice guy and really helpful. the rest of the staff are great too. The bathrooms could be cleaner, but that happens when so many people have to use the same one. I definitely will stay there again, hopefully soon. I had to stay more nights than I reserved for and the hostel was full. Even then Bryan made it work so I could stay longer and didn't have to change the location. It's a good place to meet new people from around the world!
