Hababusch Hostel is run by students who live in the building. The building dates from the 18th century and it certainly shows, but it feels as though it dates from East German times rather than the 1700s.
It is easy to get to - walk down the hill from the station. And it is ridiculously cheap (only €10/night). There is a 10€ key deposit, and it can be difficult to awaken somebody to get your money back if you are checking out before 11am.
The place is falling apart, but it it has a friendly atmosphere in the shared living area and kitchen. The showers are memorable and there are numerous signs in Russian harking back to times before the fall of the Berlin Wall. The downstairs door is locked, but the door to the dorm is always unlocked and may give rise to concerns about the security of leaving your belongings in the room.
Weimar is a lovely place and the hostel is situated near the main attractions. It appears to be the German equivalent of Stratford upon Avon, with museums dedicated to Goethe, Liszt, and Schiller. On a sunny day it is worth walking along the river from the Goether river-house to the castle.
