Rumi Wilco is the kind of place that you arrive at and leave three months later. Nestled amoung rainforest and beside a river it's hard to imagine a more serene setting from which to enjoy the valley of eternal life.
Their are three different types of accomodation at Rumi Wilco, the Pole House which is best suited to small groups, and is self-conbtained with its own kitchen and bathroom. The Upper House and Lower House both of which have shared kitchens and bathrooms and are more suited to lone travelers and couples. All rooms in the Upper and Lower Houses (bar matrimonials) are used as dorms, when required, and the price for all rooms is per person (approx 5USD). Their are no flyscreens on the windows of rooms but mosquito nets are provided over beds. There is hot water and power, but laundry facilities are handwash only.
The kitchens are well supplied and clean. Oranges are provided free of charge for fresh juice and coffee, jams and granola can be purchased for use (as can fresh bread from the neighbour).
Rumi Wilco has kilometers of walking tracks all marked out. Plants along the way are also named for botanical interest. Their are numerous swimming holes for hot days and hammocks for relaxing are dotted around the Houses.
A taxi to Rumi Wilco from the Vilcabamba bus station will cost 2USD however it is a short (10 minute) walk. Exit the bus station and head down hill (left) until you see a street leading the town square on your right. Take this and follow the road beside the Church until you reach an intersection with a bootle shop on one corner. Follow this street (right) to the creek. Follow this (left) to the footbridge cross, walk uphill 10-15m and you're at the entrance to a piece of paradise. — Katrina, Australia (2006-10-29)
