Remember when you looked forward to going to stay overnight with your slightly eccentric Uncle? Well that pretty much sums up a stay at Juraj's Hostel. Juraj is the proprietor, receptionist, tour guide, handyman, and life of the hostel. He goes out of his way to make your stay in Bratislava enjoyable, from station pickups/drop offs to guiding you to all the best places to see (and eat and drink) to doing your laundry for free. He is always striving to satisfy.
The hostel is a ten-minute walk from the main train station. Exit the station and turn left past the Chemist, then follow the path and road that hug the tracks until you get to the underpass and you will see his (signless) house opposite at 28 Dobšinského. The easy fifteen-minute walk into the old town takes you past a daily outdoor market and the Presidential buildings, while the proximity to the station makes arrivals/departures and day trips to Vienna super easy.
Once inside you will see the building used to be multiple apartments which Juraj has opened up into dorms. The rooms are clean with beds of the on-ground variety, four to a room -- but this can be juggled to accommodate different-sized groups. Each mini apartment-dorm has its own bathroom and kitchenette, although most cooking and social activity is kept to the large TV/kitchen common area where there is also an Internet station for free use. The bathrooms have new fittings although the walls are finished in the same mid-renovation style of the rest of the building. The renovations are ongoing and may not be completed anytime soon, but this does not detract from the great feel of this hostel. If you are looking for a large impersonal hostel this is not for you, but if you want a chance to get to know the owner and feel at home, then you should come and stay with Juraj.
