Besprechung von Hostelz.com
HI-Sukhumvit is located in midtown Bangkok. It is several BTS stops away from "tourist central," but this distance helps to make this mid-sized hostel an excellent value and a quiet, civilized venue to plan your exploration of Bangkok.

The Location

HI-Sukhumvit is located off a side street (Soi 38) near the Thong Lo BTS Station -- very convenient for visitors! Once you enter the Soi from the main road, it's a five-minute walk. Walk through the night market (well known for street food) and once you're clear, you will see the sign on the left side.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel is a mix of dorm rooms and private rooms spread out over four floors. Access to these rooms are controlled by a card key you receive upon check in. Dorm rooms are either two bunk beds (four beds) or four bunk beds (eight beds), depending on the size of the room. Mattresses are new, firm, and quiet as are the beds. Air con in the dorm rooms is run from 6 p.m. to 11 a.m. the following day. There are common bathrooms on each floor with a women's only on the third floor. Bathrooms have two sinks, up to four toilets, and up to four showers and are extremely clean.

Common Spaces

There is a common area on the ground floor next to the front desk. It has a large dining table and a reading nook with couch and small library. There is a fridge next to the dining table that has beverages for sale. Paid computer access is in a small room that has air con. Wi-Fi access is available for a small fee. The kitchen is down the hall past the left luggage room where the guest fridge and sink is located. There is also a small common area on the second floor with chairs and a TV and on the roof where there are lounge chairs, a table with chairs and laundry facilities. The crowd here is social and groups will form to explore the city. This is not a party hostel, but rather a traveler's hostel with people meeting to share experiences and to make new friends.

Summary

HI-Sukhumvit is one of the nicer hostels in Bangkok. It's big, so it has a lot of resources available, but not so big as to be impersonal. The level of cleanliness approaches Japanese standards (high) and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Nice hostel
Very Clean. good location, close to airport, and there is a cool little street market and massage place just around the corner. The staff were very accommodating and at least one person spoke english very well. Not really a party Hostel, not close to clubs, so nice and quiet to sleep. Great place to meet friendly, interesting people from all walks of life. Coffee tea and toast in the morning. separate male and female bathrooms. A really nice rooftop veranda with a beautiful view. Laundry machines, and communal kitchen. I didn't want to leave. My favorite Hostel ever! Should say more that they have to offer because some things weren't listed, no breakfast but they provide tea, coffee, and bread for free, Which I really liked. The Laundry, kitchen, and separate bathrooms. As well as it being quiet to sleep and close to the street market.

Not So Great
I checked in internet and informed my friends to stay there, however the customer service was really bad. They were discriminative to asian people. Actually, the asian people must clean up their breakfast tools while the europeans didn't. While my friends had the first-time breakfast and they didn't clean it because they had never been informed, the receptionist talked to them in a criticism language. The housemaid was also unfriendly. She got angry to my friends because someone enter the restroom wearing sandal and it made the floor dirty. although my friends explained that it wasn't because of them, the maid still angry and half-shoutly talked to my friends. The bed is very hard and uncomfortable to be used. The breakfast is only bread and tea. It's really out of our imagination. From all of the receptionist, there is only one person that was being nice to my friends and just because of this person, my friends would like to stay in this place. If you are looking for a comfort vacation, I really not recommend you to stay in this place. They should review their quality service in order to compete with other hostels. Hope Hi-Sukhumvit can have a better customer service in the future.

Very comfy
a short block walk to Thong Lo Skytrain station which is very handy, the block you walk has food vendors and some places to eat inside off the street, very good food 40 baht. Ate there all month. 100 baht wireless internet even worked on the second floor most times. Dead quiet at night so relaxing on the rooftop garden area is very relaxing though at any time you might find yourself in animated discussion of many things with people from all over the world and all with a lovely view of sleeping Bangkok skyline. stayed a month, March 2007.

At HI-Sukhumvit, you can avoid the crowded Khaosan. I felt myself staying in a peaceful and tranquil resort. The staff are very helpful.

This hostel is a very homey and friendly place to start your Bangkok holiday. The service is very good. Pitt the owner is the nicest guy. It is a brand new building with beautiful furnishings. I had a very enjoyable experience here.
