Besprechung von Hostelz.com
The Orbit Hotel Hostel offers a very fun and social atmosphere to its guests. There are several common lounges where travellers can hang out to watch television, catch a movie, smoke, or eat dinner together. The hostel is very smoker-friendly with a smokers patio and porch. Unfortunately, the adjoining rooms tend to receive some of this smoke through the glass-sliding patio doors. But to be fair, there are only a few rooms that connect directly to the patio.

The hostel is located on Melrose Avenue, which is just three major blocks from LA's famous Hollywood Blvd., where you will find the Walk of Fame, the Chinese Theatre, and the Kodak Centre. Sunset Blvd. is only 2 blocks away, where there is excellent nightlife. On Fridays and Saturdays the hostel runs a one-way shuttle up to Sunset Blvd. for $3.00. Food markets, and retail outlets are all a walk away, with the closest ones on Fairfax Ave. The hostel is a $35 cab fare from Los Angeles International Airport, but the hostel runs a shuttle bus Mon-Sat that offers free pick-up and $6 drop-off. Additionally, the hostel offers a number of organized tours and packages for its guests. Finally, the hostel's location on Melrose makes it readily accessable to LA's three major public transportation networks: DASH buses, the MTO and Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus. If you are interested in frequenting the beaches of LA, then Banana Bungalow is somewhat out of the way (35 minutes by car and over an hour by bus).

The building itself is generally clean and is kept in good condition with a daily cleaner. With only a small microwave available to travelers, the kitchen is not geared toward the do-it-yourselfer. There are however, two fridges for common use. Be prepared to eat a few meals from the kitchen, as the food is quite good, and servings are generous. Breakfasts vary between $2.50 and $5.00, and lunch/supper is $5.00. Very good prices as far as Los Angeles is concerned.

Bedbugs!
This is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in! Do not believe the reviews or the pictures. The place is rundown, dirty, and disgusting. If you don't believe me at least go there and look before parting with your money. You will see for yourself. I got bedbug bites so bad here that it caused a lymphatic infection and I almost ended up in hospital. Do not stay here under any circumstances. The staff were apologetic and said they would do something about the bugs. This involved spraying the room with poison and leaving the infested mattresses and pillows in the room. Great, thanks a lot. It took three weeks for the bites to clear up. What a way to start my trip around the States. I couldn't go to the beach in California as a result of the bites I got at the Orbit. The place is also filthy by normal hostel standards. This spot almost ruined my stay in Los Angeles. I was relieved to get the hell out of there. Don't believe a single review older than a year which praises this hostel as I suspect a few years back it was ok. Never ever consider staying at this hostel.

Awsome!
I went to the hostel with no expectations -- just to sleep and leave my luggage, but I was really impressed. The decoration of the playroom, halls, balcony, and lobby is great! the bedrooms are clean, comfortable, and with good bathrooms. The most important thing is that the employees of Orbit Hostel is always very enthusiastic and helpful to the guests. They organize tours all over L.A. and parties for the ones who wanna have fun! I totally recommend this place to stay at. My friends and I have great memories about Orbit, Boogie, and everybody over there!

Ok
Sorta clean, bathroom in the dorms, fun people. I was really sick during my entire stay here so my memory of this place is kinda blurry. They didn't have a kitchen though, big minus.

Friendly and clean
Orbit, whilst being a little further from hollywood boulevard than other hostels, is friendly, clean, and altogether a fun place to stay. There are a number of free activities and the staff will help you with any problems you may have. Altogether, this was a great hostel which was clean, friendly, and fun.

i can't see what all the fuss is about. me and friend stayed here for a few nights last year. it is ok, simple as that. nothing special, and after staying at the great hostels in Australia and NZ i have to say it doesn't come close to them. it might be "great" if you are young and bohemian/hippyish, but if like me you're just out of your twenties then i wouldn't bother. no one was helpful, but that said i didn't meet a single american who was, when you did asked it always seemed a chore. rooms were ok though and i have to agree that no kitchen was a minus point. also, don't get fooled by the "within walking distance" quotes. L.A. is a very big place and their idea of walking distance may not be yours. you also have to go through some dodgy looking areas to get there or get anywhere. my advice -- spend a bit more and stay at a hotel.

we stayed in a dorm which was a bit cramped with three bunk beds in a small room but it was clean and cool with an en-suite bathroom. The tv room was great for evenings when we wanted to sit in and the kitchen was handy but the evening meals weren't too good -- even if they were only around 5 bucks. Great location and the tours they run are great value. The L.A. City tour was cool but the driver was a bit of a waffler! Overall -- good hostel, great location!

I stayed here a few nights a go and it was my first hostel experience! The staff are really friendly and go out of their way to help you. The LA City Tour was brilliant! I stayed in a private room and it was very nice and clean. The only negatives were that the door lock was a bit flimsy and the patio door didn't lock at all. However there was a huge locker in the wardrobe so I just locked all my gear away during the day! Also my room was right on Melrose and it was quite noisy at times with the traffic! Breakfast and dinner were good value for money and really tasty. I would definitely stay here again!

This place was great. It looks dodgy from the outside but inside is a lot better. We had a great double room with en suite, which we weren't expecting. It was clean, tidy and had a great chef who cooked up great, cheap meals. I would definitely stay here again.

Orbit in LA was unreal. I stayed here four nights and they were the best of the holiday. We arrived during a pool competition so it was easy to meet everyone. I have friends now from all over the world. The hostel has a great set up, and thanks to Jewlz for a memorable stay. I would recommend anyone looking for a stay in Hollywood to check this place out.

If only all hostels could be so clean and organized. They give you a map with directions to all the major places around LA. What a blessing. I wouldn't want to cross the line in here. One of the guests who was drinking alcohol in the room was kicked out. I hated the poolroom next to the TV/lounge room. The TV always had to be on full blast to hear it. I came across one little bitch on the staff there but otherwise they were all helpful and friendly.

This is the best hostel I've ever been in....so much fun. If you are looking for a quiet place, don't go there. I mean, there was no problem with getting some sleep, but there is a lot of fun going on in there. Thank you for my great time, I will come back!! Rooms are cleaned every day; there are a lot of public rooms for the guests, and great five-dollar cooking for dinner. Thank you, Avi. :-), Nice staff. Coffee and tea are free in the morning. Great.

We had a private room with a balcony and our own bathroom for most of the stay, and that was amazing. Sure, you can't cook for yourself, etc., but there was so much information and organized trips and movies, etc., that it was great! Getting there was a bit of a hassle, though, and the first night we had to stay in a dorm. But the private rooms are cool.
