Hostel Soggiorno Imperia is a basic hostel but it has an excellent location, the staff are friendly, and it makes for a wonderful trip to Naples.
The Location
The hostel is in Spaccanapoli -- Naples' old town. Naples' old streets can be a little confusing at first and the long-running renovations to the metro mean going to the wrong metro line can create confusion. It is possible to walk from the main station (Metro Garibaldi, near the bus stop to the airport), however the main street is cobbled and busy with both pedestrians and traffic. It is better to get off at Metro Dante or Cavour and walk a shorter distance downhill.
There are plenty of small stores in the area and a small bar/cafe nearby -- ideal for a coffee for breakfast. Across the road is a church and at night there are plenty of bars on via Tribunali. It is also within walking distance of the major tourist sights.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel is in a charming sixteenth century building, which is in good condition. It is on the top floor after a long walk after several flights of stairs. It has the usual range of private rooms, along with four-bed dorms. For a building as old as this, the showers work well enough and the rooms are kept clean.
Common Spaces
There are no common spaces per se but the staff are friendly and full of ideas of how to spend time in Naples. Everyone has a favourite pizzeria and their choices are worth risking. It seems popular with backpackers.
Summary
This is a basic hotel with decent facilities and good location. It's affordable and one well recommended.
