Located inside London's Yello-tube-line loop and at these low prices something has to be too good to be true. It is and it isn't.
The first problem one will encounter is that it is not actually to easy to reach. Once one has arrived at the tube station Bayswater one has to walk two long blocks to the left down Qweensway at which point one is kiddy-corner from Boots (Pharmacy). Take a left there go down Porchester Gardens. Walk down an other few blocks to the end (where the street runs into the side of a square and turn right down Garway Road. Fallowing the second street on the left will bring you down the block to the hostel. which is on the left-hand side. So, it is well over five long blocks to the nearest tube station. There are buses closer by which are very confusing but will bring you to Paddington Station--also a doable hike away.
The hostel is very social--if you define social as drinking scene. It's not a party scene as much as a pure drinking scene. It does feature a bar with couches and late hours, but that doesn't keep the 'party' confined. Expect there to be loud, tipsy folks all around the hostel. This hostel is also home to an easyInternetcafe for low-cost internet usage. This is one of the hostel's best features. There is also a decently self-service kitchen open for dinner cooking use. Valuable items safes are also available.
The hostel takes a relaxed stand on cleanliness. The free breakfast has to be shared with birds which come in the windows. The dishes are simply rinsed after each use and put back out for use regardless of if anything is stuck to them. The bathrooms are cozy, especially since they have little to no ventilation and are all individual (one shower, toilet, or sink per room). They are not cleaned daily. The rooms themselves are also questionable in cleanliness. Linen are on the beds upon arrival and we are skeptical if they are always changed between guests.
Astor Leinster Inn is a bargain for the more adventurous (and drunken) souls.
