Besprechung von Hostelz.com
The building that houses Hostel Placida is located centrally, just outside of the northwest corner on the palace. For first time users from the Croatia Airlines Shuttle/Bus depot/Train Station/Harbor -- walk to the center (take the street along the water with all the signs that say center. Then, follow the street along the water with the palm trees for a few blocks. Take the last marble street to your left (be sure to note the cheap pizza place on the right). Take it to the top of the hill. Turn right and you will make a U-turn following the street. The big pink building right there is the one. Go inside and up to the third floor.

The hostel is very small and homey. It even features TV in the dorms and colorful linens. The all co-ed dorm rooms are fully decorated with art glass -- you feel like you’re sleeping in someone’s living room. They have huge windows that can let in the breeze or be buttoned up. The two single, full bathrooms are well equipped and even have shampoos and other amenities. On a small balcony you will find a fridge and microwave as well as enough dishes to use for whatever meal you could prepare in the microwave. The common room is good for sitting and talking. Laundry services are available.

Just down the marble street you will find many cashpoints, stores, and best of all, a palace. There are also plenty of eateries. The staff speaks English well. Rooms are secure -- standard keys are used. Checkout is by 10 a.m.

The only problem is that you may feel like you’re getting ripped off -- maybe you are. The people just seem suspicious about the exchange rate and prices of things. For instance they told us a load of laundry costs 5 euro and then we heard them tell someone else it cost 60 Kuna (8 euro). It seems like most prices would fluctuate.

Hostel Placida is a central, clean, safe, sleepy, and homey hostel. It feels real to stay here. Overall compared to the rest of Eastern Europe, especially a coastal city's center, it wasn't bad.

A fabulous experience!
After reading some of the comments, my friends and I were terrified, but we had a really fab time! It's basic, but clean. (No bedbugs in sight!) We found the directions very simple and got there no problem. Although the lady running it is a bit scary (she does often tell you of your stupidity), she is also an absolute legend, and a real laugh! It also has a phone and internet place on the floor above, which is great! All in all, a wonderful stay, and I would recommend it to anyone.

The world is too small for perfection. A fun stay. The people have attitude.

Well myself and my friend ended up with rash from the beds in this hostel, went to the doctor who told us it was bedbugs! The lady who owns the hostel is a complete dragon. She shouted at me because i knocked into the door with my case. There was never enough hot water or toilet roll. On the last day the mad landlady would not let us leave our luggage there because she said we had been too loud. Then she shouted again about us having a rash saying that we could not have got it from there. Apart from that though, it is in a good location and the girl who checked us in was really helpful and told us lots about Split. But definitely would not stay there again!

We stayed in the four-bed dorm, which had one double and two single beds. We had a nightmare trying to open our door every day as a faulty lock on the door. There is literally just a fridge separate to the rooms so definitely not self catering! The mother who runs the place is crazy! We had agreed with the girl on reception to leave our bags after we had checked out and then the mother went mad saying we couldn't. Two of us got absolutely covered in bites which we have had confirmed as bed bugs from this hostel! The location is good but I'd never return there!

Yikes! This "hostel" (really an apartment with cots in various living rooms) was so mismanaged, it was a running joke. The owner reacted with surprise anytime someone showed up with a booking, claiming there was "no room" and then trying to sell them a more expensive stay at another location. The grumpy housekeeper shouted at everyone the whole time for no reason at all. There's no real kitchen facilities here, so forget self-catering. It was also hard to find, and quite a walk from the bus/train/ferry (about twenty minutes), though once there, the location was quite good. Plus, it was clean. Aside from that, there's nothing to recommend this excuse for a hostel.
