Friendly Fun Franks Hostel is definitely a hostel where you can count on meeting lots of other backpackers. In fact, the first thing you'll notice when you follow the hostel's directions to their front door, is the sign instructing backpackers to enter through the alley. This is a little inconvenient, as you have to be rung up from the alley each time you enter, and the people answering the bell via the intercom actually expect you to say something before they let you in, so it can get a bit challenging to come up with something unique to say every time, especially after you've knocked back a couple. That in itself might be a good enough motivation to do your party in the hostel's cool pub.
Location
The hostel is along the river in a nice neighborhood, within walking distance of the city center and the market, but it's a little tricky getting to from the train station, as some of the busier roads don't have sidewalks. Once you get situated, however, you can easily find ways into town that don't require using these difficult roads.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The bright orange dorm rooms are spacious and equipped mostly with metallic bunks and some free--standing beds. There are lockers for stowing your things, and the bathrooms are acceptable.
Common Spaces
There are several computers available in a common room for free internet access and there is also Wi-Fi throughout the hostel. The big common area is more like a small club and seems to be a popular gathering place with the guests. It has a casual and friendly atmosphere. There is a small, galley type kitchen with a microwave for preparing your meals, and there is also a laundry service, which is pretty convenient if you've been on the road for a while.
Summary
All in all, Friendly Fun Franks is a decent place to stay while you're in Riga.
