Besprechung von Hostelz.com
Logically enough the Ubytovaci zarizeni -- Hostel Centrum I is indeed found in the center of Prague. That is the best thing it has going for itself. Located halfway between the central bus station and the Charles Bridge, this hostel can prove to be quite well located. Ask at the tourist information at your arrival point how to get there, since there are numerous train and bus stations as well as ways to town from the airport.

You will find a trashed office. It is strictly off-limits without staff guidance. The hostel staff is quite friendly, yet many members lack English skills. The rooms and hostel itself appear to be some sort of former workshop or warehouse. There is a stench throughout the entire hostel. There are dorms ranging in size from two to ten beds. On our recent stay, bedbugs attacked within the first hour of napping. The staff responded by vacuuming around the bed and trading the (now slightly used, not to mention infested) pillow and comforter with a neighboring bed. This level of sanitation is surprising for an establishment in one of Europe’s top tourist towns. The prices are also not all too low.

Nearby one will find many cashpoints, medium sized food stores, and everything else one would except to have in the center of Prague. Room security is low -- you can normally walk straight in off the street. Breakfast is offered in the morning. There is coffee vending in a sort of indoor patio with plastic lawn chairs. There are definitely plenty of plastic tables and chairs to sit on there, if you like that sort of thing.

There are numerous alternatives so the Ubytovaci zarizeni -- Hostel Centrum I isn’t even worth getting near.

Not so bad
I reserved an en-suite room for three nights but when I checked-in I found the room was with no bathroom so the first night was terrible, it was raining and I had to walk under the rain to get to the toilet in a sort of boiler room. The day after they changed my room with an en-suite one. At the end I can't say nothing bad, maybe I was lucky cause nobody has stolen anything, I just paid 15 eur per night, and I came back to that ugly room at night with two wonderful czech girls in less than twenty-four hours.

Oh my god!
what a nightmare! the hostel is so dirty! we went to this hostel because the others were full. fortunately at the reception they say that there was only place for one night. then we saw the interiors. the common places seemed like horror-movie sets, and even the toilet and shower that I personally didn't use for it was too dirty! our room was dirty, stinky, and scary too. and the street next to the hostel is always full of traffic! you can hear its noise all night long! and see its light too. so i really suggest you not even to think about going to this hostel! there are so many others in prague!

Worst hostel ever! And I've been to a whole lot! Toilets (two toilets for the whole floor, men and women) and the only shower on the floor got dirtier with every hour and they weren't exactly great to begin with (cigarettes lying around, and other more disgusting stuff!), I don't know how often they clean up (if they do), definitely not during the days we were there. Don't know how we should have used them in the end. At least the shower could be locked, the toilets unfortunately not. Considering the very strange guys that seem to live in the hostel permanently, a bit scary. The bedrooms were a little better, but also very dusty and definitely not cleaned for a long time. Sheets looked ok, though. No real window in our room, just a little glass in the highest corner, couldn't even be opened like in prison or something. Safety seems to be a very unfamiliar concept to the staff, everyone can go in and out unnoticed (the reception's closed anyway after 10 p.m.), and even when they are in, well, basically they're pretty scary, too. Bunch of guys hanging out in front of the reception, smoking all day and not responding in any other way than staring at us. We only stayed the two nights because hostels all over town were booked. You should better avoid going there!

No! No! The bed bugs -- you can see them. Creepy as hell. Apparently this place has a tendancy to lure us (actually no-so) ignorant seventeen-year-olds. I didn't even stay the night -- I got my money back in the evening and left on an overnight bus to Vienna.

Apart from the proximity to the town centre, I can hardly make any positive comments about this hostel. My original booking (done through another site) was with Centrum 2 hostel but they later asked me if it's OK to change my booking to Centrum (Soukencka 12) – same price, same conditions, same company. I agreed and they confirmed the change. When I got there I realized that there was a problem with my reservation -- or so they claimed – and they tried to make us pay more for a private room claiming that they don't have any places in the shared rooms – very unpleasant experience. After long discussions and my determination to stick to the original terms and conditions of the deal, they magically found two beds in one of their dorms. The bed sheets were ok but everything else was not. The only shower that had hot water (and that only for two days out of three) was unusable because the drainage system was clogged and the whole place was very dirty. Actually the whole place was not very clean. Overall a very negative impression of the place. We tried to keep our time spent in the hostel to a minimum.

well just got back from prague and verry happy to have a clean shower again! WHAT A NIGHTMARE!! we where pretty chocked when we arived! Our room was not verry clean! we had clean bedclothes but they musta been about 15 years old as they where torned.. the sink was not even cleaned before we came! the only thing good was it was warm! when we needed to use the toilet at night we had to run true a dark alley, unlock a door (wich didnt work properly) then go into the freezing cold toilet with no lock and no toiletpaper! then in the morning when we wanted a shower... i wish i didnt bother! cose i was not alone in the shower! there was a dead mouse!! i went to the reception to tell them and i got the answer: ok! that was it! and 4 days later the mouse was stil there! the best way to discribe this hostel is A NIGHTMARE! the only good thing i can say is that its close to the centrum witch is fantastic and we enjoyed that big time!

This hostel was manky [dirty]!! We booked our stay in the hostel through HostelMania Web site, which has never caused us any problems before. There was no indication on the Web site's description that it closed for checking in at 11 p.m. We (two 17-year-old girls) were horrified to find upon our arrival (tired and stressed after our navigation of the Underground!!) at 11:05 p.m. that the hostel was shut and we were stuck with nowhere to stay! When we got to the hostel the next morning they were rude and disorganized. They told us they had no information of our booking but they would fit us in. We sat and watched whilst they ushered another group of girls out of their room before they were due out, the "cleaner" laughing and flicking her fag [cigarette] ash on the carpet — nice! The other girls left wishing us good luck!! We decided we couldn't stay in the dingy and smelly room that they led us into before they had even changed the sheets! Eventually we were sent to Centrum 2. This was much nicer and right near Wenceslas Square. We had a brilliant week. :o)

My two friends and I stayed in this hostel in May 2005. Our private room was broken into twice — once while we were out for the day and once while we were asleep (we woke up and our screams scared them away). My entire traveling pack was stolen and almost all of my friends' stuff was stolen as well. The next night another man's room was broken into, and I know that at least one other girl's travel pack was stolen at the same time I was there. Basically, the security at this hostel is doing nothing to stop the rampant theft. (After talking to the staff, I got the impression such break-ins are pretty common.) And when you consider the fact that the last night the entire third floor had absolutely no electricity, it was by far the worst hostel experience of my life. It ruined my trip, and I would strongly advise everyone to stay away from Hostel Centrum in Prague.

I have definitely stayed in a lot of better hostels for less value than this. The only reason why I chose it was because the photos shown looked nice and other hostels were booked up. Unfortunately, it was very, very much under my expectations. My dorm's shower room could't even be closed properly (and it's a mixed dorm), and the place looked dusty in general. An American guy I met during my first night there even demanded two nights worth of his money back. Definitely not recommended!
