As you might have already heard, Hastings is the seasonal work-capital of New Zealand with over 80,000 harvest related jobs available between the months of October / June. At the height of the apple picking season mid February / early May, around 50,000 positions need to be filled which backpackers can easily do.
It is hard and hot work and those with a good work ethic can make good money during this time. Outside this peak season there are such jobs as Pruning, thinning, and weeding avaliable to those travelling in at these times of the year. Jobs are available (though hard to find) during the winter months of June / September but people wanting these positions are normally required to stay for the duration of these months.
