Friendly and a great location I returned a couple of days ago from a three-night stay at the Aroza, dorm of six. 70 euros for the weekend each! sheets were clean and crisp and a couple of fluffy white towels thrown in. room lock was pretty poor so we didn't bother but there was nothing in our room worth stealing! The shower was a bit hit and miss with the hot water -- at one stage i had brain freeze, it was so cold. but it's just what i needed when i was crawling in at 6 every morning! loved the psychedelic bar area, staff were friendly and helpful even when we turned up wrecked in the morning, they couldn't do enough for us!

Bad Ass This was definitely the shadiest place I have ever stayed! But, I had a great time at the Aroza hostel. I met lots of nice "random" people and had a great time. Look out for Christoph, a "super swedish" hippie that I guarantee will out smoke anybody you have ever met. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. Overall for not having reservations, a wonderful place to gain valuable life experiences. Don't expect much from the staff because they were too high from all of the hash they smoked.

Very cool If you travel to Amsterdam and you don't know where you can sleep then visit the Aroza Hostel. You don't need to pay much if you want to sleep behind the bar or on a couch. The prices are very good. We paid for one night on the Billiard Table (it was really ok) 15 Euro per person. This Hostel also is a good place to chill out. you can go Online for 1 Euro per half hour, take a seat and drink a tea and the TV in the "Lobby" runs twenty-four hours. If you take a bed you must pay 30 Euro per Person. You can leave and come back when ever you want. Shower and Toilet have been clean.

Want a week of hell? This is the place for you. I stayed here twelve days due to the fact of no knowledge of other hotels in the area. Overpriced (40-50 euro a night), dirty, and very insulting toward Americans. One dirty sheet and a ratty towel for the week. When I was asked for ice, a drunk named Max behind the bar handed me ice in both hands, then on a plate, and told me to get up to my f****n' room. During my last day in Amsterdam my door was kicked in and some of my stuff stolen. I was even offered a euro by drunk for sex. "He pays all his women one euro." A man (Orlando) that cleans rooms (he kept bothering me every morning) there gave this man five euro to leave me alone. The man behind the reception did not like waiting on me when I asked for ice and hot water. Once I was told the hot water cost money. Very degrading experience. Stay clear.

Disgusting, poor and, overall, you won't be treated as a client but as rubbish. Never believe the owners of the Aroza Hostel when they try to convince you... Never trust them. Keep away from it if you desire a good stay in Amsterdam. Better to sleep in the railway station than paying for a night to these unreliable people.

A warm, comfortable, and pleasant place to stay, reasonable rates and friendly staff. I have stayed here three times now and totally recommend it to all travelers.

Considering we had no reservations to stay any where on the first weekend of august this hostel is perfect when there is no other bed in amsterdam. located near the city centre all necessities are close by. 45 euro a night was steep for what you get but its worth it for the laugh. true it is disgustingly dirty but if not prepared to stay in a hostel get a hotel.

This was the ultimate dump our group of 13 lads have ever had the misfortune to have stayed in. One of the group was so disgusted he paid to fly home the next day to the U.K. Five other guys moved to another clean hotel with proper facilities the next day. Myself and another friend were propositioned with having a bed made up on the actual pool table when we arrived. When they eventually put up six Zed beds in one of our rooms with dirty sheets and a prison-type blanket, they were proud of themselves. Basically this is a DOSS house for vagrant migrants and seems to be run by a few of the unfriendly ignorant inmates. Avoid this sh*t hole from hell at all costs, you will have a better stay in prison, and at least you get a breakfast in prison. ++++++ ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING ++++++

Poor. We didn't expect much, and weren't disappointed. We should have been paid to stay there, not the other way around!
If I ever stay in a complete dump in the future, I'll be able to truthfully say, "I've stayed in worse." Avoid at all costs. They had people crammed in all over the place, even using the benches in the bar area as beds. We had 5 beds crammed into a room meant for four. There was writing over the walls, and all manner of stains on the carpet (if you can call it that) and on the beds and towels. We locked the door every time we went out, only to find it wide open when we came back. Not very secure.

Avoid this place at all costs. First, there is no second building — which is a total lie. Don't buy any drugs here, they are way overpriced and low quality. Everything about this place is sleazy and low class. I don't know if the bastards running this place are Pakis; I thought they were Turks, but they're a family and dedicated to screwing over the guests, which they clearly don't like.
On weekends, they just keep taking guests after the rooms are already full and cramming people into your room, demanding that you move your luggage ONTO YOUR BED so that they can put more people on the couch and floor.
Shabby and vile, the owners of this place give hostels a bad name. Plus the sheets are dirty, towels ratty and showers filthy, without hot water for the full day; they only turn it on in the mornings, so you can't wait out the lines and hope to clean up later.
Stay away — go sleep at the airport rather than here.

We had an awful experience in Hostel Aroza. Please read:
We had booked a twin room for three days through this site, three weeks in advance. My friend and I were ready to pay extra money to have a more comfy room. This is why be paid $37.50 a night to be booked in the second building, which was supposed to be nicer. The second building where they say they can book you DOES NOT EXIST. Don't pay the extra money for it. Our room was supposed to have "cable TV," sheets and towels. Well, we ended up in a low-end dirty twin room. We paid extra money for sheets and got only one sheet, between the refugee type mattress and the super dirty spotted and holed blanket. And the towels — one of them was spotted with black paint, the kind you would use to clean up your car. We had to have it changed.
We found out the TV was in the room next to ours. We talked to the guys staying there. It was a three-channel TV (not even close to cable) with a jumping fuzzy image. Even down in the street, nobody would pick up such a junk of a TV.
When we wanted to get our money back for the difference between "luxury room" and "regular room," the Pakistani owner made problems. He changed the refund policy three time during the conversation and finally agreed to refund us 20 dollars instead of 22, stating that the $2 difference was for the girl at the reception. Don't you pay her a salary? Not to mention the owner's friend, the obnoxious woman smoking pot at the reception, who called us "ass-holes" because we dared to protest about the sheets and towels.
In conclusion, if you want to be screwed, insulted and treated worse than in Guantanamo, Hostel Aroza is the right place for you!

This place is cool for old-school hippies. Be sure you don't find the owner sleeping in your room instead of cleaning it. No problemo, amigo!

We stayed here for three nights and it was alright. The rooms were a bit aged, but safe and clean. I would stay here again.
