Greg-Tom Hostel the 1st is every traveler's dream come true -- twenty-four-hour reception; free computers; all-you-can-eat free breakfast and dinner; multilingual, super-helpful receptionists; neat and clean bathrooms and kitchen; and bright and cheerful atmosphere.
Location
Conveniently located five minutes from the Krakow Glowny train station and bus terminal, it is also within walking distance from the old town. There is a huge shopping arcade nearby. The hostel is located in an old-style Polish building with lofty ceiling and huge windows -- the only downside is that there is no elevator but the reception is on the second floor and some rooms are on the fourth floor.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Rooms are spacious with no bunk beds. Lockers and keys are provided. There is a socket and lamp near each bed and you get free towels and linen. At night it is quiet so everyone can sleep well. The showers and hot water are great! There is a hairdryer in the bathroom as well.
Common spaces
The kitchen is no doubt where everybody gathers for breakfast and dinner. Food is tasty and sumptuous. When we arrived at 6 a.m., bedraggled from the train journey, the friendly receptionist offered us hot tea before anything else, and then an unbelievably big breakfast!
The common area is equipped with a TV, heaps of movies, computers, and guidebooks -- making it a great place to chat and meet other travelers. Different fun activities are organized each night, like pub crawls, traditional Polish dinner nights, salad dinner night, and communist city walk.
Summary
The hostel is nonsmoking and there are balconies for smokers. The washing machine is also free. It's a truly five-star hostel!
