Stadium Hostel

Super cheap -- especially for a private room in Paris! Basic rooms with a sink and mirror and linoleum floors. Good breakfast buffet (free too) with a toaster (score!). Close to internet, washing, and cheap places to eat or buy groceries. Yes, it is north of the city, and takes a twenty-minute metro to get to the sights, but this is not much of a sacrifice considering how good the metro is in Paris and how expensive accommodation is everywhere else. Also, get off at the Porte de la Chapelle metro stop (not Marx Dormoy -- it's much further to walk).

Me and my friends stayed in Stadium hotel in November 2005 and we really liked it! Before choosing this hotel as a place to stay in Paris we did a lot of research on the Internet, reading a lot of comments about different hotels, etc. But Stadium hotel seemed the best combination of low price, appropriate service, and room condition (judging by the comments we've read and pictures we've seen). So when we finally came to the hotel we were not disappointed! First of all we came 2 hours earlier than the check in time, but we were kindly allowed to check in to our room earlier with no problem at all. We stayed in the triple room and it looked exactly the same as it did on the pictures on this site: clean, new furniture, nice bathroom with a bath, etc. The stuff was very friendly and nice. We've read all the bad comments about rudeness of the French staff in the other hostels, but here everybody was nice, friendly and polite. Maybe that was because none of the guys on the reception were French. :) Yes, the breakfast is very simple (crispy bread rolls, butter, jam, tea, orange juice, coffee), but it would be silly to expect more for the cheap price that hotel charge you! Also the kitchen was very helpful and we could enjoy your dinner sitting down on the table in the breakfast area. Now a little bit about location. It's really only 4-5 minutes walk from the last metro station of the line called Porte de la Chapelle. You can reach center of Paris within 25-30 minutes from there. There is supermarket nearby and a little shop with snacks and drinks open until 02 a.m. Also there is an internet place just 50 meters away, where you can also call international very cheap. The area around seemed quiet and safe (at least we haven't had any troubles, even coming back late from the center, in spite of staying in Paris during the "riot times"). We enjoyed staying in Stadium hotel. I would definitely recommend it for the travelers with a low budget.

I stayed there in September 2005. The area where it is located is not the best in Paris, and it made me disappointed about the city on my first day. The rooms are ok but have no locker. They also have no lift. In general it is a safe and clean place to stay but be prepared to spend a little more time inside the Metro train because it is at the end of the line. I would stay there again if I had to save money one more time.

It's a plain but good place to stay in Paris if you don't want to spend much money on your accommodation. It's not in the absolute center of Paris but very easy to get to it by the underground. Rooms are clean and breakfast is excellent — fresh rolls and baguettes, jam, butter, orange juice, coffee — a perfect start for your busy day in the city. The staff were always very nice and polite, and gave me all the information I needed. I was satisfied with the place especially considering that it was one of the cheapest accommodations. I can recommend it!

Okay, it was a bit out of the way (at the end of one of the subway lines), but it was nice and clean, and we got a double room to ourselves on the 4th floor. There's no elevator, but that's not uncommon. The staff were really nice, there's a kitchen but only 2 burners and lots of people who make their own food. There aren't that many plates and utensils. I think it would be easier to cook outside regular meal hours. There's a yummy breakfast with buns, jam/butter, coffee and tea, orange juice, and a toaster (yay!). They have this Internet booth there but it's ridiculously expensive. If you head in the direction of the Porte de la Chapelle Metro station on the same side of the street there is a Net place for way cheaper. Also, they clean every day and change the waste baskets in every room —Even with the door locked, beware — they don't really think to knock sometimes, so make sure you're dressed appropriately. :)

Bad service. We went there last summer (July 5-10, 2004). We got our booking through the Internet. The place was being renovated (which is okay; part of an improvement) but there was no effort to shield the guests from the sawdust. The stairs leading to the rooms was grimy from the workmen's boots. Moreover, we requested extra linen as there were four adults and a baby (2 years old). For breakfast, they served some crummy bread rolls that weren't enough for the guests. The owner (this fat Moroccan with a cheesy ponytail) made things more difficult for my 62-year-old mother by deliberately snubbing her. Mommy noticed that the owner would serve the Caucasian guests a jug of orange juice, even those who arrived at the hall several minutes after she did. When we asked why the service was so poor, that Andre cretin started yelling at us. What a bully. So we checked out and moved to a 2-star hotel in Montmartre. It was nothing to rave about but definitely better than this poor excuse for a hotel. I WOULD NOT recommend this to anyone, unless you're white. Then you'll get preferential treatment.
