As I traveled through Fiji and Cook Islands, I was constantly inquiring as to what were good places to go and stay in the outer islands of Fiji. And, Octopus Resort on Waya Island was a name that popped up frequently as being "absolutely perfect" and they advice wasn't wrong.
Set in an the sort of white sandy beach that you see on the post cards, the Octopus resort provides to the residents of the dormitory the same high level of service that they occupants of the expensive private dwellings get. And, the dormitories are by far the classiest I've ever seen.
You approach the resort by boat, where you greeted with guitar playing and singing. Your belongings are carried up to the dormitory where your bed is adorned by fresh flowers. You have a beach towel, a bath towel and your own personal fan (though the fan turns off in the middle of the night when the generator is recharging).
The food at the resort is included in the price of the dorm, which is good as there is no place to buy anything and the food is quite good. If you can, try to be there for Friday night, which is island night and an absolutely sumptious buffet. The beach has numerous loungers and hammocks, and there is the opportunity to scuba dive and kayak, though these activities do cost extra (snorkeling is free, equipment provided). Overall, it's just a good place to relax and enjoy the water, the sun and a good book. This is luxury!
