Mission Beach Resort is not a pure hostel, in the sense that it is a 4-star accommodation that also happens to offer dormatory-style rooms at backpacker prices ($19 per night). The ensuite rooms are beautiful and are equipped with a covered garage, air conditioning, a mini-fridge, a small television, and a patio. The pool is very scenic and there are lounge chairs and patio tables abound. A clean common use kitchen is available for use, with microwaves, toasters, eight burners and a large refridgerator.
Nightlife takes place at the resort's bar, where pool tables can be found and reasonably priced food can be ordered. The steady stream of backpackers travelling on tourist buses ensure that a young social atmosphere is maintained, although the bar area tends to fill up with an older crowd of guests who are staying in the non-dormatory rooms. There is also a full service restaurant attached to the resort that offers an extravagant all-you-can-eat buffet. Travellers on the Oz Experience can score this buffet at a discounted price of $13.
The beach is a five minute walk away, and during stinger season a bus runs to North Mission Beach where there are stinger nets ($6 round trip). A bottle shop, grocery store, and news agent are all located directly beside the resort. Overall, this is likely the most luxurious "hostel" that you may find in your travels. Highly recommended.
