Besprechung von Hostelz.com
All Nations Motel is not to be mistaken for the cheap and dirty All Nations located in Melbourne CBD. All Nations Motel is located in the heart of St. Kilda, within easy access of the beach, Coles Supermarket, and the vibrant town centre -- clustered full of charming cake shops and eateries. All Nations Motel is easy to find, located on Carlise Street.

Checking in is a formality and the staff are helpful and nice. All Nations have four-bed, six-bed, and ten-bed dorms, as well as double rooms. Four-bed dorms have en-suite facilities and a TV. Six-bed and ten-bed rooms have en-suite, but no TV. The rooms are slightly cramped, especially the larger dorms, however there is something charming about the hostel. In the dorms, the bunks creak, but don't they all! The rooms are clean and have plenty of power sockets for everyone to share. The bathroom is clean and there is a large shower which works, which is a first!

The kitchen area is large and caters to all a traveler needs to prepare his own food. Located next to the kitchen is the TV and internet area. The TV area is a fair size, with two sofas and three bean-bag seats. The kitchen and TV area are very clean. All Nations offers free internet and wireless -- however, the server can be temperamental. But in general the internet is high-speed. Located next to the kitchen area is a large outside seating and BBQ area.

All Nations Motel offers comfortable accommodation at good prices in a nice area, and it has little perks such as free internet, wireless, free bike hire, and tour booking facility. The only flaw, which the hostel can't do anything about, is the busy road outside! Overall, it's a good value, budget hostel, located well in the charming town of St. Kilda.

With new owner/managers, it must be time for an updated comment! Martina and Anthony are very friendly, helpful, and busy upgrading the computing facilities and kitchen needs. The atmosphere is unpretentious and down-to-earth which suits me compared to those pharmaceutically-clean abodes, and the location is second to none, being so close to Acland Street, the water, and all that St. Kilda has to offer. On the negative side are dorms connected to bathroom/toilet -- which should be separate to save time and convenience. Being in the city, the trams can be a bit noisy at night, and a bit of a grassed area would add to the overall ambiance -- nevertheless, it's thumbs up for this one because you can't go past a friendly, welcoming attitude to make you feel at home.

I lived in All Nations for a few months. I had the best time here and met some great people from all over the world! The permanent staff were excellent but the other staff were useless and seemed as if they didn't get any training or just didnt care! I think the weekly prices could be a bit cheaper but they usually let you work to pay off some board. The kitchen was a bit too small and the lounge was too. But that just makes for a cosy place to hang out and meet others I guess. Louisa (reception) and Flo (cleaner) are lovely. The hookers across the road add to the feel of St. Kilda and this hostel is in the right position! Stay here in the summer, it is definitely a home away from home. Love the place. I will be back.

I drank and smoked away two of the best months I have had in my life at this hostel. Never left the front gates for days sometimes, walked around with boxes of goon for shoes, started smoking rollies, dressed up as ladies to get free champagne and never received it, skinny dipped at night in the sea, ate everyone's food at five a.m., hurled over the balcony, witnessed three packs of noodles being eaten in one sitting by one man, threw various fruits at the man/woman over the road, loved it.

This hostel used to be a brothel and you can tell this by the skanky oldsters that piss in the garden across the street. $130 p/w is a bit steep but you're paying for the en suite and the bedside TV, so the more fool you. And yeah, the Internet doesn't work and the kitchen is tiny and there are no ball games in the courtyard and sometimes there just aren't enough forks. Crying won't fix this but a solid 5 liters of goon and a half-decent barbecue will. You're in Australia for Brian's sake and when the party is over you'll find that the bed you wake up in is as good as any other.

I stayed at All Nations in St Kilda for long periods of time, twice during my fabulous year in Australia. I can honestly say that it has to be one of the highlights of my travels and I loved every minute that I spent at the hostel. The staff (especially the lovely Luisa) are just great and go out of their way to help you. Hey are always friendly and smiley and there to help you find work, give you advice and arrange trips and nights out for you! The hostel is SPOTLESS, always clean and tidy as the cleaning staff work very hard. The kitchen is small but everyone in the hostel is so friendly that you just help each other and work around it. I had some of the BEST times ever in this hostel, some of the people I met there will be my friends forever and I will never forget my time at ALL NATIONS!!! I would recommend this hostel to anyone and everyone as you will meet lovely people, be in the heart of St Kilda and have a BOSS time!!

This was the first hostel I ever stayed in while traveling Australia (back in August 2004) and since then I've stayed in about a hundred hostels. Be thankful for the help at the desk and the free Internet. I've only been to two other hostels with free Internet — generally in Australia they just don't have it, because why not get a few more bucks out of these travelers? And thank me for fixing one of the computers while I was staying there, although I'm sure it's been broken a hundred times since. :) Anyway, other than this it was a standard-type hostel and was quite acceptable by my meager and cheap budget as I recall. Cheers, I'm back in Canada now!

This hostel is one of the worst I have ever stayed in. The facilities are rubbish, with a small dirty kitchen and disgusting lounge. However, I accept that this is sometimes a feature of hostels so it does not really bother me. What makes this the worst hostel I have ever stayed in is the attitude of the staff. Considering I am a paying customer, I stupidly expected to be treated courteously and politely. The All Nations staff act like they are all doing us a favor by allowing us to stay there, rather than we are paying to stay there. One new staff member in particular is very inept at her job and makes lots of errors when checking people in and taking money. To make matters worse, she storms about the hostel acting like she owns the place, being rude to paying guests and blaming them for the errors she has made. How a staff member is allowed to behave in such a manner is beyond me. The cleaning staff don't actually like cleaning, as the rooms and bathrooms are never well done even after you have requested they be cleaned properly several times. There is free Internet, but there is usually only one terminal available for the entire hostel and this sometimes crashes, so you could accuse the All Nations of false advertising. As I said, though, I would not mind any of this, as the hostel is a fun place to stay with a good atmosphere. But what I do mind is paying over $130 dollars a week to stay in a hostel where you are talked down to and patronized by staff, who should be trying to ensure you have a good stay. I will not be staying at the All Nations again in Melbourne.

This hostel is dirty, and although it's very cheap you could stay in other hostels for the same price and not have to wipe your feet on the way out. Trust me, don't come here. Yeah, it has free Internet but there are only two computers so you have to wait about three hours to get on.

It's difficult to rate this place. It's either 2 or 4 stars, depending on what you're after. We stayed in a double en suite which was an absolutely superb room — big comfy bed, really nice shower/bathroom, big room with TV, fridge, and coffee/tea making facilities. Basically it was a hotel room rather then a hostel double room. It's pretty close to Acland St and hence the beach too, so that's all good. The downside is that if you want to use the shared facilities they are basically crap. The kitchen is miserably small and ill equipped to deal with any form of actual cooking. The lounge is similarly small and the free Internet is a bonus but practically impossible to get on because of the number of beds versus the size of the shared area. So 2 stars if you want a hostel, but 4 if you're out all the time and don't want to use the shared stuff.

This place is clean and friendly. It has only been open for a year and a bit (this was written on 5/09/04). The manager is really friendly. The free internet rules. All in all I would definitely recommend this as one of the best hostels in Melbourne!
