HI - Jugendherberge Heringsdorf Hostel is an excellent alternative to stay when you want to visit the Baltic beaches in Germany. Heringsdorf is a very popular resort and as such accommodation is expensive here, so staying at the hostel is the cheap option to go to the beach.
The Location
In a beach town, there is no better location than staying on the beach and that is where you are! People usually go to Heringsdorf by car and so the hostel has a good parking space. When you go by train, it is a walking distance from the train station (about ten minutes) and there are signs on the way there, so no big problem, since once you find the beachfront, walking down the sidewalk will take you straight into the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
As with most HI hostels in Germany, the Heringsdorf hostel aims at hosting families and school groups. The family rooms are separate from the bunk bed rooms and are located at a nice villa house at the beachfront. The quality standard of this hostel is very high.The bunk beds are located at a big, three-story building, with exceptionally clean and comfortable rooms. The cost includes linen but not towels. There are not many very large bunk bed rooms and some very nice cozy rooms, with flowers at the windows, German style, with maximum three bunk beds per room and individual WC in the room. Showers are outside the rooms, strong and hot. Though the hostel has a high occupation rate, they are not usually crowded.
Common Spaces
The hostel does not have a common kitchen, so cooking is not allowed. Excellent meals are supplied at a reasonable price, though, which is very convenient when you return home hungry. A huge help-yourself breakfast is available, where you can find fruit juice, eggs, and several kinds of bread and ham. As with other HI hostels in Germany, there is abundant coffee, tea, chocolate, fruit salad, and yogurt.
There are many open rooms and reading rooms, game rooms. Outside, the location is right at the oceanfront, so you will be able to cross the causeway and get straight into the beach. The hostel also has a nice volley court and develops many sport and beach activities for guests. There are outside barbecue areas and a pool room. There are computers available to use at a price.
Though the place is usually full of families with children of all ages, this is an excellent place to meet people. The relaxing beach atmosphere helps communication and people are very open and talkative. It is not difficult to participate in the sport activities and at night the city is so full of good places to visit, to eat, to play, or to dance.
Summary
This is an excellent beach hostel to stay and enjoy in Germany. Both reception and breakfast-serving personnel are very friendly and helpful with English language. This is remarkable since not many people in German hostels speak fluent English. Be attentive with reservations. They are usually necessary because the accommodations are so good that many people come from Berlin, Hamburg, and other big German cities to enjoy the hostel and the beach with their families.
