Australia Backpackers Fremantle Hostel - Cheviot Marina is a good place to get your head down for the night, and has a lot of space unlike other more cramped, claustrophobic hostels.
Location
This hostel may be overlooked because it is not right in the heart of Fremantle town centre, but it takes under five minutes to walk into the centre and there is a free CAT bus stop right outside the front door which can take you there for free from the train/bus station, and then free into town, to the beach. Also it's two minutes' walk away from two major supermarkets.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are really spacious with high ceilings and large windows. The bunk beds aren't too close together either so you can actually sit up straight if you're on a bottom bed. Some dorms have a little balcony, which is useful for drying washing although there are also washing lines and tumble dryers. It's very secure, with lockers and auto-locking doors, and the bathrooms are very big and very clean.
Common Spaces
There is a large TV and DVD room upstairs where you can watch one of the many DVDs the hostel has (they are available for a deposit), with new DVDs added regularly. There are no sofas in there, though, just big chairs with no cushions. Also no food is allowed in the DVD room, which is slightly annoying -- everybody likes a movie snack!
They have Foxtel TV downstairs in the large eating area, next to a pool table, ping pong table, and a few vending machines. There is a large beer garden as well as the hostel's own large bar area, which is separate from the ping pong and pool areas, so there's plenty of space to be social.
Summary
This is an ok place for a night. The staff, however, are rude and a bit strange/creepy -- although they are never around much anyway.
