The Location
Tube 'n Axe Backpackers Lodge is located in the small village of Stormsriver near the Tsitsikamma National Park. The hostel is close to a small supermarket where groceries and alcohol can be purchased, although this is a very small town. The town is surrounded by forests and mountains and has warm temperatures during the day but is cold at night. Warm duvets are provided in the bedrooms for cold temperatures.
The hostel staff are very helpful and can arrange all the activities on offer in the locality. The hostel has a good reception/bar area where a selection of meals can be ordered at meal times. There is an excellently serviced kitchen for guests who want to prepare their own meals. The bungee-jump-themed bar has table football and a pool table, and there is a bonfire lit outside nightly in the garden. There is also fast internet access, a book exchange, tour information stand. The hostel is on the Bazbus route with drop-offs and pick-ups early in the morning or late in the evening depending on the direction you travel. The hostel arranges shuttles to all of the activities on offer in the area for a fare, but is cheaper for groups than one person. The grassy garden is huge and great for spending time outdoors.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Rooms offered are bunk bed dorms ranging in size from six to fourteen beds (they also have a couple double rooms and forest tents and camping are also available in the garden area). The rooms are spacious and the hostel provides clean bed linen and towels. Duvets are also provided as the temperature is cool at night. Rooms have individual-style bathrooms rather than communal and hot water is available all the time. There are no security lockers in the rooms but valuables can be left at reception.
Common Spaces
The bar area is very big and has plenty of tables and chairs for guests to use. There is another smaller common area with couches away from the bar.
Summary
This is an excellent hostel, with clean rooms and a good location with excellent hostel facilities. Most of the travelers staying are here to do the world's highest bungee jump located at Bloukrans Bridge, twenty minutes' drive away and as such only stay one or two nights before moving on.
