Pineapple Park Hostel is located on Highway 11, 20 minutes by car from Kona and about 45 minutes from the airport. A colorful variety of kayaks and a nice, big sign help to identify the hostel. Start looking for the hostel once you passed the gas stations in Captain Cook. The hostel is across from a vehicle workshop on your right hand side.
There is visitor parking available at the hostel. Take caution, when you turn into or out of the parking area. Highway 11 is a busy road! A car is a necessity to go to a beach (10 minutes by car) or to see Kona. There is no public transportation available from the hostel.
Annie is the owner and she is often around and is friendly and helpful. Guests often gather outside at the gazebo to barbeque or hang out in a fairly relaxed atmosphere.
The TV is located in a small common area in the kitchen. The kitchen is reasonably well equipped and tolerable, but not spotless. It could be a bit crowded, as is the fridge at times.
The dorms have six beds, a big storage area with extra blankets, and a counter that could be quite useful for leaving or packing things. A fan in the room, as well as individual bedlamps provide some extra comfort. The linen and rooms are clean and it is surprisingly quiet at night, even though you are so close to the road.
The shower and sink are combined and quite unique! The toilet is next door in its own separate little room. Both areas are fairly clean.
The small hostel store offers a variety of kayaking and snorkeling equipment. A public phone and lockers are located in the lobby, close to the reception area. A bigger corner store is just a short walk away.
