Besprechung von Hostelz.com
M&J Place is a decent option when booking hostels in Rome. The location is great, it's just a few meters away from Termini Station and right across the street from a huge supermarket. There are four, six, eight, and ten bed dorms; some with shared bath and some boasting private bath. It's our recommendation not to shell out the extra money for a private bath.... you still end up sharing with other dorm rooms on your floor (as opposed to sharing with the entire hostel) and other hostel guests will be directed to your bathroom in the event that their's is broken or in use.

On the subject of plumbing, only a few of the toilets in the hostel were actually usable during our stay; some were backed up pretty bad and wouldn't flush and others were out of order completely. The staff seemed a bit clueless about the plumbing problems, but were eager to help once they were told. Despite all the plumbing complaints, these seem like common problems that exist in the other hostels (and even private hotels) in Rome.

The six bed dorm is spacious, clean, and amazingly quiet. There are small lockers available at the front desk for valuables, but none in the rooms. The kitchen area is big and quite well stocked. The common area room rocks with lots of comfortable seating and a satellite TV. There are four computers offering free Internet access. Breakfast is included in the price, but leaves quite a bit to be desired (a packaged store-bought croissant and fuzzy peach juice).

M&J is a great social hostel and it's a great place to meet a lot of really cool people.... and there is always someone recruiting people for the pub crawls. The only problem is that the commons area shuts down and kicks everybody out at 11:00 PM.

Overall, M&J is a decent hostel if you're looking for a fun hostel close to Termini.

Honestly, staff generally unfriendly (specially the young arrogant guy) and way too uptight about its hostel reservation policy. We were six people and had to pay for eight. The beds sat empty when two other friends where not able to make it (Checked in at 6 p.m., there was still plenty of time to rent out the beds to other guests). Rooms are green and not much to them, but I guess that's what you could expect in a hostel. They accept no credit cards. During our entire stay (two nights) there was a bucket right in front of our door catching the water from the dripping ceiling. Almost fell over it going to the bathroom at night. The breakfast is served somewhere outside the hostel so you have to go all the way down three floors and out of the hostel to get your morning coffee. We skipped it. I guess what put me off most with this place was the attitude at the front desk. He was just too eager to get our money and explain his refined hostel policy to us. It just didn't feel right and gave a bad taste of the whole stay at M&J's. The only favorable thing about this place, if I have to choose one, would be is its ok location. If you have a reservation and check in after 6 p.m., be prepared, you will lose your bed at this place! Good luck if you have to pick this one!

This hostel is very close to termini station. But is only that. This is the worse hostel that I've ever been. So, I hope that everybody has one idea before the reservation. the bathrooms are dirty. the hostel doesn't have internet (as well as said in the reservation). the staff is ok. doesn't have lift and the hotel is on fourth floor. the breakfast is served in a bar downstairs, but isn't only simple. Is only terrible, awful. So, if you want to stay close to termini station is good, but is only this thing that is nice.

I was pleased by the way M&J treated me and my boyfriend during our staying there (February 9 through 11). The personnel was friendly and they treated us respectfully, they helped us without interest. We came in the night, from a long walk in the rain, and our clothes were so wet. Without their help, I don't think we could have had any chance of visiting Rome the second, and the last, day. The rooms were ok, average by size, but the window was very small (there were eight beds). The beds were just a little bit uncomfortable, but the shits clean. The two baths on the hall weren't enough for all of us, approximately twenty people on the floor, maybe even more, and they were very small. The breakfast is not much, but, at least you can enjoy it in a very nice place, the downstairs bar. The kitchen is well-equipped and pretty large. So, after all, it is a hostel! I haven't been in many hostels -- in fact this one was the first, but it really was ok. So, don't miss it, if looking for a place to stay in Rome!

M&J Place will not cause you any good first impression. Much on the contrary, it is dark, appears to be dirty, and is located on the third floor of a building without an elevator (at least not for the hostel). Ok, you may be impressed by the fact it is just across Termini Station, a reference point in Rome, but that's it. Do not expect much more. Its bathrooms are helpless, the breakfast is poor (but I suppose it is like that in all Rome hostels), and the bedrooms are crowded with more beds than the space would stand. Anyway, if you intend to be out all day, maybe it is worth a try. If not, forget it from scratch!

We have stayed on a lots of hostels in different countries during our yearly european trips and i'm sad to say this was the worst. We stayed during first week of august and were accommodated in the large dorms all three of us. Besides that just one of the toilets was in order on the floor we stayed (twenty to thirty persons), the thing that made us most disappointed and confused was following (a way to fool money out of travelers when you already sure that they will stay the night it seems). They say that the price is between 13-20 EUR per person. In that case, the options for the best room should be 20 EUR and the least convenient should be 13 (or at least 15). The truth for us was that we had to pay 25 EUR each and that was for sure in the most spartan ten-bed dorm with no extra facilities that should be the cheapest category.

This place has sh*t bathrooms and crap pillows. The prices are expensive and only one of the three showers actually worked. The guests were friendly and the location is good but other than that I do not recommend you stay here.

One of the worst -- if not the worst -- hostels I have ever stayed at, and I've done quite a lot of budget traveling. The staff are incredibly rude, there is no security whatsoever, sheets are dirty and beds have bedbugs, the breakfast is nothing but a joke (slice of toast and a tiny cup of apple juice -- they call it "Italian breakfast" on their website). Also, the bathrooms stink and there was never enough warm water. Very expensive for what you get. Stayed here for two nights and it completely ruined my Rome-experience. Don't stay at M&J.

This place as many people have already said was dirty and stank! The bathrooms smelt really bad and as we were staying in the summer i guess the smell was even worse. A lot of people have complained about bed bugs and both me and my sister got some weird itchy skin thing and had to have 2 lots of treatment to get rid of it when back in the UK. I have stayed in hostels all over the world and this was by far one of the worst. I wouldnt recommend anyone stay here! Sorry!

Good and cheap hostel! Nice staff. I stayed in a lockable and silent six-bed dorm with its own bathroom for 20 euros. Everything was clean and the beds were excellent. There is no Internet because of some stupid law from the Italian government. Location is perfect, just five minutes to Termini and next door to a supermarket. In the basement is a bar were you can have breakfast and coffee all day. In the evening it becomes a club with house and funk music. Very social people; I had lots of fun on the balcony and in the common area. Good place.

I had a great time at M&J. The people were really nice, and customer service was excellent. Every time I went up the stairs to my room there would be a lady cleaning the bathrooms or the dorms. The kitchen was nice, although breakfast wasn't that good, but if you are staying in a hostel you shouldn't expect a 5 star hotel buffet. I thought it was really secure, of course there are going to be cases of thing missing and stuff like that, but in my case I left my iPod charging in my room with no problem at all. And the doors can lock, at least mine did. There are 6 showers per floor and about 30 beds distributed in different rooms, so at the end it's like a dorm. About the Internet, there are 3 computers for everybody and you have to wait a while, but if somebody takes too long you can always say something, and it sure is better than paying 2 euros per hour in any other place. Overall it was an amazing experience. I know where to go the next time I go to Rome.

This place sucks ass. Stay somewhere else if you can!!! It's expensive and I got some weird skin condition after staying for one night. There is no security whatsoever and no privacy either in a mixed dorm. Oh, and you can't book for a second night so you constantly have to wake up in the mornings to see if they have beds, and then pack and move to another room, which you can't get into until 3 p.m. DON'T STAY HERE.

GREAT hostel...they totally meet all your needs. However, you might need to go out in the morning and get a supplement to the two small pieces of breakfast toast they give you. But...Internet is free, there's a huge common room with couches and a TV where everyone hangs out, free lockers, and places to put your bags when you're leaving that day. Try to request a room not on the street side though — the traffic is LOUD all throughout the night.

We stayed here from June 10-11. If you can, pick another hostel... Good: It's a place to stay, there are mini lockers for valuables, a big kitchen, and TV room. Bad: There are 3 PCs for the entire building. They are free but you will wait 1 hour — no one sits just 20 minutes. There are 3 showers for the entire building. I had to move out from the room in the morning to move back in later in the afternoon. Luggage is all left in a pile for everyone to take. The place is really dirty and stinks. Verdict: If it's raining and cold, go stay at Termini.

Expensive and inconvenient. I have traveled the last three months all over America and Europe and this was the most expensive place I've paid for — 27.50 euros for a dorm!! And if you walk in (which is the whole point of a "hostel") they only let you stay one night. If you want to stay longer you have to get up at 8:30 a.m. each day and beg. Too bad if they're overbooked by Internet bookings that night. The "breakfast" is bad machine coffee and two slices of warm bread. That's it. Dirty bathrooms, too. But it is social; that's why it gets two stars.

Here are my thoughts: -Showers/toilets are nasty, one step up from squatting. Make sure you have flip-flops! -Breakfast sucks, but you should be used to that by now. -Beds—Sometimes you don't sleep alone, sometimes they have bugs. -When I was there in 2003, the people were really cool. It's not really a party spot but we met tons of Aussies and even a couple old burned out losers (who are always funny). -The place is safe (I'm from North Philly) but as usual watch your stuff. They have a safe, so put your ice and crunk money in there. I would stay at another place, but many hostels are always booked.
