The Walrus Reviews from the Web

4   Great staff! The staff at the Walrus is incredible. A group of incredibly helpful and warm people make everything very easy. Five star wasn't quite there because in general I felt like there was a lack of space. There's a downstairs bar and lounge that's fun but other than that the hostel is a tight network of hallways and stairwells, with the rooms feeling relatively cramped (I was in the 18 bed room, to be fair). Overall it was a fine stay. The ambiance was cool and the staff was great, which made up for the cramped feel of the place.  , age 22, USA ()
4   Location, location and amazing staff! To Alex and Jimmy a special thank you, the extra time you took to give two foreigners the low down on London was so appreciated ... our room was comfortable, and no trouble with the train sounds, maybe too tired after a day exploring london! Hot water, towels, comforter, breakfast. Drinks in the lively bar after a long day were welcome -- for people on a budget an excellent location, close to london eye, westminster bridge, a great walk along the south thames area with incredible views of big ben, houses of parliament, especially when all lit up at night. Only drawback, stairs, narrow and steep.  , canadian ()
4   Good Place for a short stop Staff is nice. Breakfast was a plus. Bathrooms were decent. Kitchen useful and well stocked. 24 hour train noise can leave one weary. Liked the hostel, definitely needed a break from the train sounds.  , US ()
5   Great value, great location, great people Staff ensures you are comfortable. Free wifi. Drink discount. Very secure and flexible with checkins and checkouts. Trains woke me up the first morning but didn't bother me after that. Good environment and are willing to help you make your way around the city in an efficient way.  , Canada ()
5   Bang for the buck Excellent location. Superb Wifi. Free Breakfast. The bar is stocked and a great atmosphere in the evenings. The staff are overwhelmingly generous and helpful. Jack's bike tours (Tally Ho) start from the hostel almost daily and are a must do. Only downside to this hostel is being a 16+ bed room with minimal (if any) AC.  , USA ()
4   Loud but nice I stayed at a four bed female dorm during the olympics. The hostel has a good location, but it's situated right next to a busy railway so bring earplugs if you want to sleep well. The toilets and showers were a bit busy in the mornings but there are several of them so it's not a big problem. The one thing that bothered me is that in the booking it was mentioned that there is a toilet in the room -- there was not. All in all the hostel was ok for the price and location. The free breakfast was a plus as well as free towels and the possibility to borrow an adapter. Also the staff was very friendly.  ()
5   Highly recommended! I stayed here with a friend during the Diamond Jubilee weekend. Excellent hospitality from all the staff, in particular Alex, who was very welcoming on our arrival. He made us feel really comfortable from the minute we walked in, to the time we left. There is a bus stop right outside. Lambeth North Underground is a 2 minute walk away, Waterloo Station and The Southbank are about 5 minutes walk away. The breakfast offered included in the price was great. Unlike other hostels, luggage storage, Wi-Fi, towels and umbrellas are also provided for free as required. Having stayed in other hostels I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a pleasant stay while in London.  , British ()
