Hotel Annemarie is a quiet, out of the way place in Amsterdam. From the train station, you definitely need to take public transportation to get there, and then with a good map, you should have no difficulty. From there, is close enough to walk (15 minutes) to Leidseiplen and other main areas of the city. The red light district is a little further, but public transportation services the spot quite well.
Inside, you'll find a very friendly and helpful staff. In the morning, they provide coffee and tea, along with toasted cheese sandwiches (not the greatest, but they do the job). They also sell a variety of munchy foods, which can be useful in Amsterdam. The rooms themselves are dorm style -- six to eight beds in a room, in bunks. The mattresses are excellent, you'll definitely sleep great. And the maid service comes in every other day to wash linens and blankets, and tidy up the room. Warning: make sure you hide the towles/linens you brought -- they'll take everything. Bathrooms are inside the room. It's a one-room bathroom with a toilet/shower and a sink. Down the hall, you'll find another half bath.
The whole hostel is very clean and quiet. There's not too much interaction between the guests, it's definitely not the Amsterdam "party hostel," but a good one if you want a good, quiet night's sleep.
