Guest House Ga-Jyun is an excellent option if you want a warm, social, nice stay, and included breakfast. The breakfast is amazing since they serve multiple fruits, milk, juice, yogurt, rice, pastries, miso soup (owner's specialty), tomatoes, lettuce, scrambled eggs, and more, which is amazing considering it's a hostel. The owners run the place in a way that makes atmosphere always welcoming and friendly. There is free Onzen every night if you want to join and a Friday party, at which you get unlimited food for a fee. They also have a friendly dog, Jiro, which makes the stay even better.
The Location
This place is in Gion, ten minutes away from Sanjo Station; however, there are some buses that drop you next to the guesthouse. There is a convenience store right in front and some restaurants nearby. There is a small sign outside the hostel, but it's easy to find since it's located in one of the main streets.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel has six-bed, mixed; six-bed, female-only; and male-only dorms. The beds are comfortable and there's a curtain for privacy. There is an individual lamp and plug in each bed. The lockers are of a medium size and are on the second floor. There is enough space for a normal backpack, cameras, and laptops. There are no passwords for the dorms, but the password for the main entrance (which closes at 11 p.m.) is given upon arrival.
There are two toilets and one sink upstairs and two toilets, two showers, and three sinks downstairs. All of them very clean. There is free shampoo and body soap, but no conditioner.
Common Spaces
There are two common areas and dining tables downstairs, where there is free coffee, water, black and green tea, plus sofas upstairs where there is a massage chair. There is a kitchen you can use if told in advance and a fridge. There is washing and drying machine available. There is a nice, small backyard at the back as well. The owner has an Onzen, so guests can join every night, as well as a Friday party for which you can pay extra and get unlimited food. There's also the option to pay for a nice, delicious dinner.
Summary
This place is an excellent option in Kyoto. It has everything for a social, warm stay, and it's very easy to meet people. Free Onzen and Friday party, amazing included breakfast, and a warm and friendly atmosphere are everything for relaxing and enjoying Kyoto at the same time. There are lockers and laundry available, as well as free coffee and tea.
