• Directions are always fun in Costa Rica. Most homes and buildings here do not have a street address. Instead Costaricans use a 'landmark' system. They pick a nearby well-known building or other landmark, and give directions from there. As such our address is...
• Chibcha Hostel
• Plaza del Sol (shopping mall in Curridabat - our nearby landmark)
• 100 meters Sur (South), 100 meters Oeste (West)
• San Jose, Costa Rica
• The Chibcha is in a large white colonial style house with a high stone wall in front. It's the last house on the right hand side of the cul de sac.
• From San Jose airport (SJO) there are two options...
• 1. Taxi: Just give the driver our address. Should take about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Cost will be about 30 dollars (15,000 colones).
• 2. Much less expensive is taking a bus, then taxi: Exit the airport building, go left and follow the drive around to the right for about 200 yards to the local bus stop (you may have to say no to several 'taxistas' en route). Buses to San Jose leave every 10 minutes or so and the cost is a little over 1 dollar. The bus will leave you at a bus station on Avenida 2 (2nd Avenue) in downtown San Jose. From there catch a taxi to the hostel. Cost will be about 7-8 dollars (3500-4000 colones).
• Arriving by car?...
• From San Jose, ask for directions to the Plaza del Sol in Curridabat. It is a very well-known landmark with which all taxi drivers are familiar. It's located about 3 kilometers east of downtown along the main road (technically the Pan American Hwy, or Hwy #2, but don't expect to see any signs confirming this). Make a right turn at the Kentucky Fried Chicken, then another immediate right turn at the Inka Grill. Remember that there are no street signs. The hostel is the last building on the right.
