Ulcinj Hostels

Ulcinj, the southernmost town in Montenegro, is located near the border to Albania right on the Adriatic coast. The city consists of three parts -- the "new town," home to the the bus station as well as a main shopping area with things like the pharmacies and banks; the city center, which is down on the coast along a cove and features many restaurants and a sandy beach; and the old town, which is located on a peninsula around the side of the cove, made up of a stunning array of stone buildings in a historic fortress.

There is limited choice for hostels in Ulcinj, but you will have easy access to the bus station. The city is relatively small, but there is no public transportation, so you'll have to walk the kilometer from your chosen Ulcinj hostel to the center and beach. Otherwise, many guesthouses periodically rent out beds hostel-style (shared rooms); many of these are located in the center (which is the tourist hub). It's not uncommon in this case to have a view of the sea from the balcony right at your room. Shared kitchens are available almost universally. For hostel-goers there aren't any options to the south of town, where there is a practically endless sandy beach, dotted with a few resorts. In summer, beds can be hard to come by as many people flock to Montenegro from Serbia and the rest of Central-Eastern Europe, so do book ahead and expect to pay more. In the shoulder seasons (April to May; October), there are especially cheap beds to be found.
