"Landmannalaugur is a superb place. It is difficult to get to (even the buses have to have 4 wheel drive), but what a better way to spend an evening than enjoying scenic mountains and talking to holidaymakers.
The mountain hut is easy to find - as the bus pulls into the campsite (the only man-made thing in Landmannalaugur), staff from FI (the Iceland Touring Association) hop on the bus and explain the site's facilities and can take you across to the mountain hut.
It costs ISK1,700 or about the same as hostels or sleeping bag accommodation... more »
