As a 14th century art history student and never having been to Siena before, I wanted accommodation that was both inexpensive as well as clean, comfortable and in the heart of the medieval town. It's always difficult to know the reality of the situation when booking over the Internet but I decided that, if the room were really bad, I would just cope. What a great surprise Residence Paradiso turned out to be! The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, the windows open, the toilets and bathroom are spotless, the kitchen is fully equipped and the place is in impeccable condition. We arrived by train on a Sunday afternoon when normally the desk would have been closed, but Domenico and Emanuele waited for us and were incredibly helpful our whole stay, even to booking us a taxi the day before for our 6:30 am departure. The kitchen balcony overlooks San Domenico and has stunning views across the contado (countryside). The Residence is roughly ten minutes' walk from the Palazzo Pubblico and Campo, and the Duomo. There is a regular supermarket around the corner from Residence Paradiso and a gourmet supermarket on the Banchi di Sopra. There is no curfew and we could come and go as we pleased at all hours.
