Built in 1990, with extensions added in 2001, 2002 and 2006 , CASTRO hotel lies in the middle of Amoudara town only 300m away from the famous sandy beach, just 5 km away from the centre of Heraklion.
The hotel Castro has 78 luxurious rooms and 4 apartments all recently renovated. There are rooms with sea,mountain and pool view.All rooms have their own bathroom, private balcony, colour TV, telephone device, hairdryer, refrigerator and air-condition (against charge, paid locally).
The Hotel offers the conditions to fulfil all the needs of a memorable holiday. Maxim is the name of the restaurant inside the hotel where you can taste the famous and healthy Cretan cuisine. It also has a bar and serves Greek and international dishes as well.

The facilities were very nice- balcony off our room, bar and restaurant on property, swimming pool. The location was fine as far as being close to the beach and in an area with places to go eat, drink, etc. It is not overly close to central Heraklion, however.

My sisters and I stayed here for one night in between cities. The floor drain in the bathroom not only clogged, but overflowed into the hallways after the bathroom flooded, twice! They tried to fix it at 0100 am, but once it happened again the staff just mopped it up and in the morning there was sewage water on the floor. On a positive note, they did discount our room rate and give us the key to another room to take showers, but still pretty disgusting. They do have a pool and free breakfast, so others' experiences may be better than ours was
