It is not a guest house. It is a small backpacker style resort. This is a resort in that it offers more than just room and board, but it is not what most Americans envision when they think "resort." Most bures have no en-suite bath. The room and board part is very basic, but the hiking, snorkeling, and diving here are very good. The diving and snorkeling gear and dive/snorkel trips are offered by Viti Watersports, which is next door. If you want big parties, noise, high speed Internet, phones, or a pool, this isn't for you. This is remote and quiet. Bring plenty of mosquito spray. Limited Internet and phone use are available on a pay for use basis in the owner's office. You'll find no bright lights, no TV, no radio, no road, no fancy hostess. To get from the airstrip at Vunisea to Waislaima Beach takes an hour or more on a scenic ride that is sometimes very rough in a basic outboard powered open skiff. Current boat ride cost is $120-150 FJD each way (Jan08). The ride is worth it. This place is unique. — Waisalima Man , USA (2008-01-14)

We must live in different worlds. Our family and our Norwegian friend had an awesome holiday. Great snorkelling even though it was overcast. Great food and hospitality. Treks to villages. You cant blame the hostess for the weather or the black molt. We had lava from a Pacific explosion, it was all over fiji. And you have to understand that remote areas are remote and indigenous people often work on fiji time. Hence probably the delayed pick up. The hostess had her internet down for seven days when we were there and daily phoned Telecom, very frustrating. You should have gone snorkelling! It was beautiful -- when people go remote they cant expect the same facilities as mainland. My daughter and niece were in the standard bure and there was a problem with lights but they didnt stay in them, they were too bsuy socialising with the great people at night. We stayed deluxe and had hot showers, light and room service. A holiday is really what you make of it. We will definitely go back soon. — kimm (2006-10-12)
I stayed at Waisalima in June of 2003 for seven days and cut my stay short. The boat ferry did not pick me up upon arrival and I got stranded on the other side of the island by myself. Luckily the locals in Vunisea took good care of me and this "accident" was the best part of my stay. Once arriving at the "resort" I was escorted to my hut. I stayed in the bunkroom, which had no lighting or any way to lock my stuff up. I saw the sun a total of six hours the first six days (don't go to Kandavu in the Fijian winter, it gets dark early and rains a ton — the Yasawas are better in the winter). The beach was covered in black slimy molt and the snorkeling on the beach was fair at best. I never went out to the reef because the sun never came out long enough for it to be worth it. There were only three other guests and I know one of them had a hard time getting her scuba stuff arranged — they are not particularly organized. I returned to Nadi two days early — as I left the owner became angry with me for wanting to pay with a credit card since I had not spent enough money for her liking. A sour note to end a stay at a place I will never return to — I would hope there are better places to stay! — Tara (2005-08-15)
