It's a palace constructed to mark his victory over kingdom of Varanasi. Hotel Elena is located just next to Main Ghat (Dashamwedh Ghat.) It has 35 rooms in which 28 are river view rooms and 7 of them are air-conditioned. As the palace is east facing it gives you the rare opportunity to watch the river as well as admire the sunrise from the horizon of the river.
Each room has en-suite facilities with hot showers. Our hotel has its own travel desk which works as your further travel consultant. It also has internet access, overseas call facilities and a spectacular roof-top restaurant. The hotel also provides pick-ups and drops to the airport or railway station and city tours which comprises of Sarnath and Ramnagar fort and outskirts area of Varanasi. We stayed in the Maharaja room which had an amazing view over the Ganges. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The rooftop restaurant was a nice bonus.

The rooms and the views were gorgeous, but thats pretty much all you say regarding Hotel Elena. When traveling in India it is a constant struggle for foreigners to not get ripped off, but here right from when you first walk in the door they are trying to sell you over priced trips and under the table deals. They wanted to charge us Rs. 600 for a boat ride for 6 people which should probably cost Rs. 200. Overall, I would not recommend this place to fellow travelers.
