Location/ContactOur 12 rooms are located in two buildings. All rooms have sea view and are tastefully decorated and equipped with East African art and furniture built from eco-friendly local materials. The six rooms on the ground floor have bathrooms and a private balcony. The six second floor suites are all double-storey with a spacious living room, bathroom and balcony on the first level, and with a king-size futon bed with mosquito net under the thatched roof. For families, additional beds can be placed on the first level. All rooms have ceiling fans.
Casa del Mar has its own emergency generator, as electricity blackouts are not unusual in Zanzibar. Furthermore, we have invested in a 60,000 liters underground freshwater tank with three powerful water pumps, providing the rooms with hot and cold water.
Our circular-shaped open restaurant is located directly on the beach. In the wider Jambiani area we have gained an excellent reputation for our traditional Zanzibari, Mediterranean and international dishes. Even many guests of other hotels regularly enjoy our home made fresh-caught fish, meats, vegetarian dishes and exotic desserts at reasonable prices.
Why not try a fresh dish of Indian Ocean fish such as king fish, tuna, white snapper, octopus or some prawns? Or a beef steak with tasty sauces? For a snack our kitchen team recommends some of our selection of "Sambusa" pastries or a light salads. Our fresh fruit juices are a delicious refreshment throughout the day.
In the early morning, when you can have your breakfast on the terrace, the sunlight awakes you with its sparkles on the mellow surface of the Indian Ocean. And at night, the moonlight reflects on the gentle waves, while the palm trees are suavely sweeping in a mild, tropical breeze - at the Casa del Mar you will have a truly magical time and some excellent culinary experiences!
Facilities
Our hotel has a white sand beach. It is one of only a few beaches in Zanzibar where it is always possibly to swim - during high and during low tide. During low tide the sea forms a natural lagoon and swimming is totally safe. Lying on the beach, you can observe the local fishermen in their wooden boats. There are over 95 different plants in our tropical garden. Sina, our gardener can show you how to grow fruits such as papaya, guava, durian, mkungu, or our 7 different species of bananas. There are also many tropical flowers such as frangipani, hibiscus and fuchsia.
It is our philosophy to include the Jambiani village community into benefitting from tourism. Therefore we encourage our guests to make use of the village internet café which is next to our hotel.
On our restaurant and bar terrace you can spend your time in the shadow and play games such as chess or Bao, Zanzibar's most popular board game - or you can read a good book in one of our rocking chairs in the garden.Services we offer include laundry service, room service, and our own 24 h taxi service.
