Best Suited For Couples
This hostel had such good ratings, but to us, was a big disappointment. Being in an isolated location, your only real choice for food is what they serve for dinner every night. When I called, they did not know what the meal would be, but said that it "would be delicious." That is a matter of opinion! Their "delicious 3 course meal for Q100, was meat balls over vegetables, eggplant appetizers covered with bacon, and some type of lemon pudding over granola, and did not include drinks. It was very dark in the eating area and the only other people there were couples. After dinner, the internet was down, and boats stopped running, so there really was nothing to do, unless of course, you are a romantic couple if you know what I mean. There is beautiful scenery around the cabins, but the walk from the common areas to the cabins is quite steep and challenging. Breakfast was not included, and by the time the final bill came, the cost of food ended up being more than the cost of the room. I am allergic to cats and there was one monopolizing the common area as well as at least 2 dogs pestering us for food during dinner. I really wish I had more info before coming here. My bad for relying on reviews!

A lovely spot on our planet. If you haven't been to Lake Atitlan, it's a beautiful lake ringed by volcanoes. This hotel is a short and beautiful walk from where a water taxi will drop you off. Food was great, and the milieu was relaxed, friendly, and informal. One of the pictures from our trip that's hanging on our office wall right now is the view of the lake from their bathroom! There are other hotels nearby, but Isla Verde has the best beds by far -- real mattresses. I'd have given them five stars just for that.
