(Shared) Home Away From Home 10/2008
There are not very many hotels to stay at on the North Shore of Oahu except for the fancy and expensive Turtle Bay Resort, which my husband and I did not want to pay for since we were on the North Shore mainly for the beaches, snorkeling, shrimp trucks, shave ice, and the Polynesian Cultural Center. We just wanted a clean and safe place to stay where we had our own private room and a clean accessible bathroom. We found this at Shark's Cove Rentals. We highly recommend this place for the location (right across the street from Shark's Cove famous for snorkeling, in Haleiwa the famous quaint surf town, a couple minutes drive from the Pipeline and Sunset Beach -- surfer's paradise in winter months, and about twenty drive to the PCC). John, the owner, was super hospitable and accommodating, even giving us an upgrade, the people staying there were mostly couples and families, the house was clean and well kept, the room is equipped with A/C, and guests get free rental of snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, beach mats, bikes. The only thing that could be difficult is the parking (free, but limited) -- we had to move our car in the morning so others could get out before us. The roosters can also be a pain at 5 a.m., but they can't be avoided anywhere on the North Shore! If people are hanging out and talking later than your bed time, shut the double paned windows and turn on your A/C to drown out any noise. We would come back here and recommend this rental/hostel.

While on Oahu, I have been staying at the Cove for 5 of the last 10 years. I have stayed down town (noisy) and on the westside (Sunny, Warm and a long drive to anywhere on the Island) and at another Hostel on the northshore across from Three Tables beach (Dirty,Loud,yuck! but nice people in the same boat I was in). Sharks Cove is by far the cleanest Hostel in Hawaii. The owners, John and Wilma Lane work hard to keep the Cove clean, and comfortable. They give you what you pay for-Awesome views, perfect location, and nice people from all over the world. The grill is awesome (they clean it regularlly) to use when you by steaks at the Foodland just 5min walk away. I feel safe at the cove and have never had anything stolen from my room! But a little common sense helps. My room was made up new daily and the bathrooms and shared area's are cleaned daily. The free use of the washer/dryer with free soap is a real plus. They also have a quiet time after 10pm so you don't have to worry about loud parties until 3am. I have made alot of new friends from all over the world while staying at the Cove and look forward to meet in new ones this March. Maybe you might be the next one?
