1 Never go back again!
We are visiting Hanoi for the first time and we booked a double room for USD15 with venus hostel not hotel. The room (402) is clean with air-con and water heater but the bed is super hard. You can basically feel the spring poking at you back. We spend 2 night there and our back nearly broke. We left for Hue and was back in Hanoi 3 days later and we book with Venus again hoping to get a better bed. We arrived in Hanoi around 11pm and after navigating through the streets of Hanoi at night, we reach Venus at 12mn. We are surprise the shutter is closed but the lady let us in after a series of knocking. We were given a triple room instead of a double (302). From the look on the face of the lady, they seems to have forgotten our booking with them (we have paid the deposite). The room stinks like S***, the water heater does not work and the shower head broken and there is no towel like the first time. They should have prepare the room since we had booked and paid with them before we left for Hue. I am guessing that they know that we booked the Halong Bay tour with Handspan and not them and thay are not really happy. We will never ever go back there again. This is not the first time we are backpacking. Oh yes, the room looks really different from the website.

1 The worst experience of my travels ever
I had booked a room at Venus in advance by phone -- was told that a single room would be available that night. I was traveling on a late flight from Danang into Hanoi, and was informed by the hotel that they would send transport. When I arrived at the airport, no transport waiting. Hopped in a taxi and got to Venus, only to be informed when I arrived that the hotel was overbooked. It was midnight and I am a single woman, horrified by the thought of searching the streets at that hour for a room. The receptionist told me not to worry, he would take me to his "second hotel." It was only ten minutes away. Feeling like I had no choice at that hour, he put me on his motorbike, with my large backpack (a hair-raising feat) and proceeded across the city and onto a bridge. I had no idea where we were going. I was taken to a disgusting motel, down three floors to the basement level, room 101. the bathroom's clean and there's a/c, but i immediately notice cigarette burns on the sheets, no windows, and spiderwebs on the lighting fixture. I was then told that I had to pay $25 up front or I would have to leave. I had no idea where we were, and it was after 1 a.m. They bullied me into paying the money up front, despite repeated requests to speak to a manager. I would hate for anyone else to experience the same. Don't go with Venus.

1 Don't want to buy their overpriced tours - then don't stay here!
Whilst inspecting this hotel I overheard two things: (1) A guest asking why they had been moved, in their absence and without notice to a room of lesser quality; (2) Another guest asking why he was charged so much for a tour when he found out - after buying the tour from Venus - that he was charged almost double for the same product. The latter was asked to check out of the hotel. Treat the hotel the same way - don't stay here.
