1  Not a good place to visit... much less live. First of all if you're looking for a good time in Osaka you want to be nearer to shin Osaka station, Minami Osaka is the old area and not much touristy stuff is located here especially near Tennoji or Shin-Imamiya area. This is not a hostel, it is a "bijinisu hoteru" which is a Japanese business hotel. Mostly frequented by businessmen that are in Osaka overnight and just need cheap place to sleep or whatever. Second this is not in a good area. There are homeless people right across from the station that camp out there, the station itself smells like pee all the time. There are lots of drunk people wandering around in the daytime. The map they give you is crap and we got completely lost in a bad area. I didn't feel safe walking around there after dark at all. The bathrooms are disgusting. We were on third floor, there is only one western style toilet and it is on second floor, it is filthy but so are the Japanese toilets. The floor looks unclean and the entire place smells like pee. There is also no soap next to the sink or towels to dry hands with. The room was very small, the walls looked filthy, but the tatami and bedding looked clean at least. There is no heating on third floor or above, you have to use a Japanese heating system which is basically a heating pad for your futon. You put this thing in between your blankets and it heats them up before bed. But the room is freezing! I guess first and second floor have heaters but you pay more for those rooms. There was a TV with basic twelve channels and small collapsible table. Shower was a problem. As a girl I had to request shower then I had to wait for male guest to leave, old gentleman at reception (no English) came and got me when it was free. They put a sign on the door and you lock it. I recommend shower shoes. Place is set up as old Japanese style bathroom with tub, but these are not in use. The tub actually had some old cabinets and a bicycle in it. They have two shower stalls with curtain to use instead. However the shower is set up Japanese style also and has a push button. You have to push and you get maybe a minute of water, then it turns itself off. I had to keep hitting it to keep the water constant because the room temp was freezing. They have no ventilation so they cracked open windows and it was about 30 F outside so 0 C. I don't recommend this place unless you have no other choice, there was about twenty business hotels in this area that we passed and most of them looked cleaner (at least from the lobby area). At the very least have them show you the room before you decided to stay there!  , USA ()
