Oak Hotel Reviews on Other Websites
5 Free internet access, nice and close to a metro station on Ginza line.   — Jeremiah Ell (2010-05-06) Hostelbookers
5 We only stayed for one night but the staff were excellent. The location was very handy for the Ueno station. All the facilities we needed were there, also very clean and tidy. Good price.   — Anonymous (2010-02-13) Hostelbookers
4 friendly staff, free internet, short ways to the town via railway   — Stefan Drücker (2010-01-15) Hostelbookers
4 Easy place to stay, single private rooms are clean and sufficient. about a 15 minute walk from Ueno station with luggage. helpful english speaking staff. Nice ramen noodle restaurant across the street.   — Anonymous (2010-01-12) Hostelbookers
5 The location of this place is why I keep coming back there. It's in a quieter pocket of Tokyo, near some museums, parks, temples and shrines that I like to visit, but the closest station is still a major bullet train hub, and its no less than 15 minutes away from the busy busy middle of the city.   — Anonymous (2010-01-02) Hostelbookers
5 Clealiness, helpfull staff, good lokation, dood describtion of the way to hotel   — Maria Wójtowicz (2009-11-04) Hostelbookers
5 A great hostel I can recommend to everyone. You have a choice of western style rooms and japanese rooms (book beforehand), which makes the experience even better. The only (very small!) criticism I have to make is that you do not have space to really unpack your luggage, you have to more or less live out of your suitcase (or backpack, as the case may be). Anyhow, Oak Hotel will be my primary choice for my next visit to Tokyo!   — Stephan Wonczak (2009-10-30) Hostelbookers
4 Excellent price and close to the train.   — Paul Araujo (2009-10-23) Hostelbookers
4 The Oak Hotel provides a good base for exploring the East side of Tokyo; specifically Ueno Park and the surrounding museums. However, it is at the opposite side of the city to the 'happening' parts of Tokyo (Shinjuku, Shibuya & Harajuku) and thus requires 20 minute train journeys for genuine Tokyoite nightlife (might not seem long, but you'll want to minimise the time you're packed in like a sardine!; and the trains stop dead at 12, no matter where you are), but it is close to Akihabara, Ryoguku and the world famous fish market which is very handy. The Ueno station is close by and provides access to the Yamanote Line (get used to travelling on it) which is the circular line which runs through the major parts of the city. As for the interior of the hotel, the rooms are clean and comfortable and of adequate in size (which is good in Tokyo), while the bathrooms are units which can barely fit a fully grown male in (again, this is common in Tokyo and should not put you off, just be aware)! For those with laptops ask at the front desk and they'll give you a modem to use in your room (the arial is next to the TV, at least it was in my Japanese style room) which means you get a steady and stable internet connection. It is a hotel and there is no big community area so it is not the best place to meet fellow travellers. The staff spoke English and were friendly, but Tokyo is so easy to navigate, even for someone who speaks no Japanese and reads no Kanji, that I never had to ask for directions. However, that being said, the hotel itself is quite tricky to find - the landscape is so dense that its hard to initially spot the FedEx when exiting the station - just bare left and you should spot FedEx, then just follow the instructions (basically straight on past the FedEx and look out for the sign after the subway station). All-in-all i would recommend it as a based for seeing the East side of Tokyo.   — Jamie Middleton (2009-10-21) Hostelbookers
5 It is clean and comfortable   — Anonymous (2009-09-26) Hostelbookers
4 It is an incredible bargain and definitely worth staying at. It's quiet, clean, and comfortable with each single tatami room with it's own bathroom. Less than half a block to the nearest metro station and the rest of Tokyo and Japan. Easy to get to and the staff is very helpful. Definitely will stay there next time in Tokyo.   — Anonymous (2009-09-26) Hostelbookers
4 I was very pleased with my stay at OAK hotel. I had my own private room and bathroom. It was very Close to Ueno station. If you are looking for something that will give you more privacy than a hostel this place is it.   — Anonymous (2009-08-25) Hostelbookers
5 Location and kind staffs   — Anonymous (2009-08-03) Hostelbookers
4 Small but efficient rooms. Location is very good for short sightseeing stints. Free internet though it is often tough to find an open computer. Overall great value for Tokyo.   — Keith Dokho (2009-07-26) Hostelbookers
4 It's nice to be able to choose Japanese or Western style rooms, all non-smoking which is great.   — Anonymous (2009-07-03) Hostelbookers
5 Great value for the money- feels like a hotel but with a really friendly, personable staff.   — Robert Jewett (2009-06-25) Hostelbookers
Very good location - just one block away from the Ginza line subway station -(which is super convenient reach any part of Tokyo) and not far from the Keisei line to the airport. Room is satisfactory but the outer brown blanket sheets were a bit rough. I like the ease of check in and check out and free internet! Overall I am happy with this establishment. Keep up with the good work. I would recommend you to my friends.   — Clement, Canada (2009-06-20) Hostelsclub
4 I am not really good to explain very well, but i will try to do it : - I found its location near the park of Ueno and the station which permit to directely go to Narita Airport very convenient. The hotel is not on the main road, so the rooms are very quiet. - Thank to a magnetic card we can go back to the room at any time we want. - There are many computers to connect to internet, one which skype for thoose who like to use it, so it is rare to have to wait to acceed to computer. - Room and hotel in general are really clean at the atmosphere of the hotel vivid. Personnal bathroom and toilet even if a little small is really pleasant.   — Anonymous (2009-06-03) Hostelbookers
5 Everything. It is a nice place.   — Anonymous (2009-04-18) Hostelbookers
5 Free internet access for laptop users, free use of hotel computers, close to train lines, good location, friendly staff, unique environment. This was an excellent place for the money -- the rooms are SMALL compared to western standards -- but still a good size. I will def. stay there again during my next trip to Tokyo.   — Shaun Osburn (2009-02-18) Hostelbookers

5  Very pleasant all round Decent location about ten minutes' walk from Ueno station. The hostel management's directions are accurate! The en-suite rooms are small but very nice and very clean. I recommend sleeping a room with a Tatami mat to sleep on. Free high speed internet in the room, or via shared terminals in reception are a nice bonus.  , UK ()
5  During my stay, the staff was very warm and help us to find a hospital. They called several hospitals and drew us a plan to go to the right palce. It was very nice. They answered our questions with smile at any time of the day. The rooms were comfortable and clean. And there's a free access to internet. My whole experience was wonderful! Moreover, Ueno is a good place to sleep in order to visit others parts of Tokyo.  ()
5  This place is spotless, the staff are fantastic and have loads of time for each and every guest, close to Ueno station but the dorm rooms are often booked but on the plus it's not too expensive for a single room. There is a bar one block away which is good because i don't like a bar on the hostel premises, it attracts the wrong crowd, at least for me. I left Kha San road annex to come here and would def stay here at Oak Hotel again.  ()
5  Great example of Japanese hospitality. During my stay, was taken out twice, along with other guests, by the president of the hostel company.. He was very kind, generous, and gracious, always fielding my questions about Japanese customs, helping me find my way around and feel cared for. All the staff were incredibly warm, helpful, and kind. While I was there, a new years party was thrown in the lobby...traditional japanese food, champagne, beer, adn of course many kinds of sake. Rooms were comfortable and clean. The town of Ueno was ideal for me... more old time than the bright lights and night like of romanji or other parts of tokyo. The whole experience was wonderful, the best part being that there is no us and them between staff, owner, and guests...all are there to have a good time in harmony!  ()
