1  Very Poor It was a mattress on the floor which they tried to call a European Futon. in a small room with no place for luggage and a very small space for walking. maybe eighteen inches. Photographing from above as in the ads giving the impression of a bed. but it is just a house in the suburbs, quite far from the city centre. We decided not to stay there because a mattress on a floor in a very tiny room. and don't go if you are allergic to cats. something else they neglected to say. When I decided to leave upon seeing the room they demanded one nights payment, which would have been fair if they had not misrepresented the place. There attitude and their words was caveat emptor, buyer beware. and the refused to return my passport without payment. so I became angry with them. and agreed when they offered to call the police, whose attitude was that it was not a police matter. I did offer to compromise and pay half the room rate, but they were unreasonable and uncompromising. Holding my passport for ransom. I have stayed in more than a hundred hostels throughout Asia of various quality and this is the only one where I could not even stay one night!  , Australia ()
5  Wonderful chill-out place! Will return soon! We thought One Florence Close had a very well thought-out design, with a subtle retro feel. Very clean, homey (cute cats!), chill, and unpretentious. Owners are helpful but unobtrusive. Wonderful location beside subway, mall, and bus station to Malaysia. We went to the bowling alley and arcade round the corner, it was fun! Ask about the WingTai warehouse where they have various factory sales year round too, we found great bargains from Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, and Nike during the few days we stayed.  , German ()
1  Very rude reception and a separate price for everything I reserved two nights at this hostel but when I arrived I realized that I only needed one night (had to catch a late flight on the second day) so I asked to book only the first night. They then tried to charge me $50 US to cancel the second night because I reserved the room on the internet. When I complained and told them that I didn't want to stay there they refused to give back our passports. Another staff member then came out and told me that she didn't want to argue with me while she peppered our conversation with witty quips like "civilized people understand" "can't you speak English" and "don't give me that face." At no point in our conversation did I ever raise my voice or get upset (I was too tired). Eventually I paid, didn't think I could make my case understood with the local constabulary. The more polite receptionist then led us into their common area and told us that we had to wait until 3 pm to check in (we arrived at about 1 pm) but that for another $25 US they could check us in two hours early. We decided to wait it out. To kill some time my wife tried to use the shower but since we hadn't checked in yet another $5 fee would apply. She passed. The internet is also free after you check in but for early check ins it's $2 for every 15 minutes (we're at another internet cafe down the street where it's $2 an hour). This place has a lot of great reviews and the facilities are clean but the staff and their policies could definitely stand some improvement. There are plenty of other good competitors to choose from in Singapore.  , Canada ()
5  Lovely hostel, lovely people, lovely cats! Great place to stay. A very clean, safe, small, family-run hostel. The rooms are simply, but have a TV and the pillows are so comfortable! There are only six rooms though so get in there quick! we really enjoyed our time here.  , England ()
5  One Florence Close is a cracking new guesthouse that really deserves to be successful due to the amount of work and minute attention to detail that has gone into making this place both stylish and practical. The rooms are compact but completely self-efficient and like the rest of the place, immaculately kept. There is a small kitchen for guests who want to self-cater and a supermarket opposite the MTR station less than a 5 minute walk away. The shared bathrooms are small but super funky and spotlessly clean. Cynthia & Evon really made us feel at home and were extremely helpful and personable. All in all, a fantastic little place that we would recommend to anyone!  ()
5  One Florence Close is a gem of a hostel and a real breath of fresh air (must have been the cheery green wall). If you are looking for a chilled-out and restful place this is it. We had stayed in another hostel located in Little India the last time but the surrounding area was just too noisy, crowded and dirty for us. Fabulous design by the architect-owner (I love the funky dancefloor tiles and powerful shower!), great food, warm owners and freakingly close to the MRT! Even details like towel rails, mirrors and double locks etc. are all provided in the rooms. One Florence Close is located in a pretty residential area away from the hustle and bustle, and superbly convenient with a big supermarket, mall and large food centre just across the road. There is even a bus service to Malaysia and Thailand, which we took to Kuala Lumpur. Highly recommended to anyone who is coming to Singapore. We are already spreading the word!  ()
