5  Excellent An excellent place to stay. They were so friendly -- we thought the offers to help (without payment) were too good to be true, but were overwhelmingly proved wrong. The girls on the desk were so helpful booking us great trips to halong, bus tickets, all without booking fees and cheaper than the travel shops. And when we returned from halong bay and were waiting for the bus they lent us towels to shower, let us use their internet, and looked after our bags, all without us paying anything other than the original room price, 5usd per person. The rooms were very clean (bathroom was small), great part of town -- five-minute walk from the lake, but nice and quiet to sleep at night. Would recommend to anyone, even dedicated hotel-only travelers.  , Australia ()
5  A real hidden treasure, stayed at the Hanoi Old Quarter Guesthouse 9th April for two nights, Mini Van from the airport was US $3, I arrived just after 5 p.m. and was registered for stay (Vietnam Hotels take your Passport). The room was on the fourth floor, no lift -- so a bit of a hike. Nice room, clean and comfortable, large Bed, good en-suite bathroom with hot water. The location in Bat Su Street is fantastic and close to the main attractions. The satellite TV and free internet is a bonus. The Breakfast was a roll with a cheese single, Jam, and coffee -- just enough to kick start the day. I didn't use the air cond as it was the beginning of April but am sure would come in handy over summer. Overall a fantastic place to stay and the gorgeous Tin on reception was very helpful. Excellent value for US $10. I'll be staying there again.  , New Zealand ()
5  I was here at the end of March 2007. This was a wonderful little hotel. I stayed in two different rooms because of taking off in the middle for a couple of tours. They were clean, everything worked, there was plenty of space. Breakfast could be western or Vietnamese -- I chose the Vietnamese noodle soup, provided from a restaurant across the street. It was delicious. Internet access was available for free at the terminals downstairs. My travel arrangements to Sapa and to Halong Bay were made by a young lady named Thin (pronounced "tin"). She did a fantastic job helping me choose tours, and then she made all the arrangements. The tours were great fun, but not excessive in price. She also set me up with hotels in Hue and Hoi An -- the hotels were quite decent, and at prices somewhat lower than I was able to find myself on the internet. She also made flight arrangements for my trip to Siem Reap in Cambodia. All of this was handled with a touching concern for cost but also reliability (she warned against too much dependence on airline schedules). She took a real joy in helping me arrange my visit of this beautiful land. Her fellow staffer, Ha, was at the hotel every minute, and would do anything and everything to make my stay comfortable and convenient; and to give advice concerning Hanoi. During my trips out, I felt very safe leaving my excess luggage at the Guesthouse for a couple of days. The one point on which I think they need improvement -- when I contacted them through the website, I didn't hear back from them by email. After a couple of days, I actually telephoned to check on the reservation, and it turned out ok. My advice to potential renters is to be prepared to be a little patient waiting for a confirmation, because it is worth the wait. (And my advice to Hanoi Guesthouse is to be more prompt in answering email!)  , USA ()
4  This guesthouse is lovely. However don't get the room on the top floor in summer as it's just way too hot as its all windows and air con does very little for it. The staff are very helpful and we booked a great trip to Halong Bay with them. They kept our bags while we were on the trip too! Very safe guesthouse and I would recommend. Also free internet and breakfast.  ()
5  The staff at Hanoi Guesthouse are excellent. The manager Ms. Moon is amazing, she helped us organise our entire trip in a couple of days. Couldn't have wished for a better place to stay.  ()
