Hotel Mandala

A very nice and clean budget hotel with friendly staff. I would recommend the rooms in the garden behind the main building. These are a little older, less expensive, slightly more spacious, and very quiet. This is the quieter end of Lakeside, though now considerably well developed compared with a few years ago. The Laughing Buddha restaurant, just 1 minute down the road, offers a very good value set breakfast. The family across the road is worth contacting. The wife (Saraswati) will do your laundry, and her husband (Lal) is an excellent porter/guide if you wish to arrange your own trekking without an agency. I have trekked with him around Manaslu, and trekked and climbed with him in the Khumbu. He is strong, extremely professional and reliable and has a big heart.
