The Hostelz.com Review
Euro Hostel Newcastle Halls operates only during the summer -- late July to early September -- and is located in University halls. On weekends, and especially if Newcastle United is playing football, it can be near impossible to find cheap accommodation in the city centre. This place, if it has space available, is a reasonable choice.

The hostel is relatively easy to find and is walkable from Newcastle Central station, although it involves lots of stairs up and over roundabouts and roads. Manors metro station is close by but with the road flyovers and traffic works it is probably just as easy to walk straight from Central.

If you arrive into Newcastle Airport late -- because of Easyjet delays for example -- the metro will probably be closed and you'll need to get a taxi. If like the driver says to you "the hostel is not as bad as it reputation suggests" you will walk in with bad feelings but on first impressions this hostel was not so bad.

The rooms are kept clean and although small, have excellent security. The showers work well and there always seems to be people running around the place.

The major gripe is that it is relatively expensive. It is fair to say that the quality of this place is somewhere half way between "backpacker-style hostel" and the "budget hotel."

Fortunately it has 24-hours check-in and the young staff members are quite friendly. The location is decent –- close to the riverside and Bigg Market is a walkable distance away as well. It is much more convenient than the YHA hostel in Jesmond which seems to always be full, shuts down early each night and is a nightmare to get to and from.
