On the day we arrived, our room wasn't free yet because they had mixed up the dates and scheduled our arrival for the next day. So they settled us in for the night in one of the cellar rooms, which had a shared bathroom, though we requested an included bathroom in our booking reservation. Not that I would have minded it that much, if they had at least given us some discount, but nothing. If you have a room towards the street you should be a very deep sleeper or bring earplugs, 'cause at six in the morning trucks and cars pass by on the road at full speed and the walls don't turn it down so much. The service in this guesthouse is not good, two or three times there was a young man running around, apparently the manager, but whatever you asked him he always told you to ask the reception-woman (forgot her name). On our last day we asked her to call us a taxi to the station and though we told her the time thrice, she didn't manage to. The taxi was there half an hour too early and waited with running engine for us hastily finishing packing. Lucca is a very nice and beautiful city to enjoy, but better do it elsewhere.

If it's friendliness and customer service you want, stay away!! The woman who works in this hostel is quite possible the most horrible, ignorant human being I have ever had the misfortune to meet. The power went off in our room when my friend used the hairdryer, and when we complained the woman was not going to turn it back on because she would have to "go downstairs". Well its a hard life but we're paying 45 euros a night and electricity would be nice! On the other hand, the place was spotless and quite comfortable, so may be fine if it's only a bed you want and not a nice atmosphere or good service.
