Zackry Guest House

Very nice place to relax a few days
stayed here for nine days in october 2007. it's a really good place to stay -- clean rooms at cheap price (paid 25 RM for a single with fan), got my room cleaned every day, got new bedsheet and towel (real soft and fleecy!) every second day, there is a kitchen with big fridge for use, so i had my own breakfast including fried eggs, and if bad weather you have a TV and DVD player and a great DVD collection. nice place even to meet people from all over the world. it is a quiet place and not far from the beach and several good restaurants. will come back!

We stayed at Zackry Guest House for three days and it was the highlight of our Malaysian trip. Zach and Pete, the owners, were fabulous people. The rooms were lovely and all facilities just perfect. They have a wonderful honesty principle for using the internet or helping yourself to the drinks in the fridge. You have to pay the owners on your way out and all by keeping tab yourself. What an amazing way to run a place. The guest house was also equipped with a super collection of DVDs and books and one can spend a lazy day watching movies/reading. Just five minutes' walk from a nice sandy beach, a couple of restaurants, pubs, and shops, Zackry's is a nice, lively place to stay and meet fellow travelers.

We were there Christmas 2003 and this was one of the best places we have been to so far. It's cheap, has a very nice guesthouse, and Zackry is a nice host. They even pick you up from the airport and respectively take you back. (We did all payments via bank transfer and Sham was waiting for us at the airport). Langkawi is an amazing island with nice beaches, sailing, surfing, and diving opportunities. The best option for moving around is to hire a motorcycle or car. Just keep in mind, driving is on left (UK style). We met really nice and interesting people, and Sham is a star! Sham knows everything for the island, food, and places to go and see. We will go again for sure!

We visited Zackry Guesthouse for a week, and found it to be a comfortable and friendly place, definitely good for meeting people and sitting around with a beer. We found Zac to be a character, very interesting and helpful (as was his wife). We enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate in going back there.

I couldn't tell you about this hostel. Because despite having booked a room and telling the owner I'd arrive at 6 p.m., when I got there he'd sold my room. There was nowhere else for me to go except, conveniently, he had a room for $75 as opposed to the $20 I'd arranged. Do not trust this man.

We stayed here last year and had a fabulous time, taking in the sights with Sham. The guesthouse is warm, friendly and cosy, and a great place to meet other travelers. We're going to revisit this place before we go home in the next few days. It's a really great find!
