5 A great place to stay in Bangkok. Everyone is most helpful, accommodations are good, and it doesn't take long to feel like you are part of the family. While travelling in South East Asia, we returned time and again.

3 For Bangkok this might be a good value, but as far as guest houses in Thailand go you don't get much here for the money. The staff are indeed helpful and friendly, willing to give directions to where you want to go. The restaurant is decent, though the menu is limited- the continental breakfast for 70 baht is good. The biggest problem with this place is the noise level. Despite the fact that it is out of town and not on a large road the walls are so thin that you will hear what your neighbor is doing, what the person accross the hall from you is doing, and what everyone who is coming and going in the buildings hallways says. That includes the people who stumble in drunk in the early morning hours. Other than that, the out of town location can be a problem if you are on a tight budget and you'd probably save money staying in a slightly more expensive place downtown. Also, despite the sky train which comes within about a 15 minute walk of the guesthouse and connects to "downtown", you really are quite far away from all the main attractions except the huge weekend market. The facilities are decent, the shared bathrooms kept clean, and air conditioned rooms are available for slightly more money upon request. There isn't much space for large social gatherings downstairs, the common area is relatively small and the pool is practically in the restaurant. Aside from children we never saw anyone swimming there. However, if you don't mind the noise and the location this can be a friendly place to spend your time in Bangkok in a safe and peaceful neighborhood with great staff.

4 This place is a bit expensive at 300 baht, but the seventh day is free, and it's 250 baht per night if you don't mind walking to the fourth floor. Great, great staff — they help you, they smile, they joke — the staff are an English man and his playful Thai wife. They serve excellent food — some of the best in Bangkok, though the portions are a bit small. You can have a "guest" join you for the night for free and they keep that "guest's" ID at the front desk till they leave — genius. The place has great rooms, with balconies and big double beds, and a TV with movies. The common room is okay, as it's the TV room and part of the restaurant. It's only a semi-social setup.
