Clean room, with air conditioning, a television, and a central location. The bathroom had a funny smell in it (not created by us!), and there were a lot of hotel ''rules,'' which gave the place an unfriendly feel. Other than that though, it was ok. The walk from the train station is pretty long so catch the bus if you can. — Amelia (2006-10-09)

hotel la perla is a great budget hotel and after staying in hostels it is grand. the price is right, you get your own bathroom and there was a tv in our room. the place isn't that clean. the bathroom had hair stuck on the wall from the last people. there also is no breakfast included but it was well worth it. — CHRISTINE (2006-05-24)

This was a great deal and a very nice place to stay in Siena. It is in a plaza just off the main plaza. We were able to walk all over the city from there. We had a great view of our plaza from the room with a very Italian window with wooden shutters. We thought we would be sharing a bathroom but were pleasantly surprised with our own! The room and the bathroom were very clean. It was a good temperature in the hotel. The innkeeper let us use the computer to check e-mail. We had a TV in our room, too!
We stayed mostly in hostels during our two-week trip in April 2005 so it was nice to have our own room. Rick Steves said to use this hotel as a last resort. He called it funky with stark rooms, old bedspreads and miniscule bathrooms. I usually follow his advice but didn't on this one. I had no trouble. Sure the room was not decorated too well but I don't care. I am only using it to sleep in. My bedspread looked pretty new to me and though the bathroom was small it was great.
The only bad thing about the hotel that they could control was that the mattress could have been more comfortable (I think they pulled together two twin beds). It wasn't that bad though. Other things bothered us while we were there but it wasn't the hotel's fault. There was construction going on one night next door that was very loud and the next night it seemed that lots of drunken people liked to walk by singing very loudly. Bring really good earplugs if your room is off the plaza or next to the lobby. One morning there were a bunch of very giggly girls in the lobby for what seemed like forever! I guess they could have asked the girls to keep their voices down but we could have also let them know that they were disturbing our sleep and we didn't. Other than that, for a one-star hotel, you can't do much better than this. We loved our room with a view and hope to return again someday! — Karen (2005-08-06)
