3   Small room, surprise tax! Room was advertised for $79/night. Made on-line reservation paying $7.90 as 10% deposit and leaving a balance of $71.10. At check-out a 16% hotel Tax was calculated raising the charge to $82.47. $82.47 plus $7.90 equals $90.37. You actually pay $90.37!  ()
5  Immaculately clean rooms with cable tv, microwave oven, and mini fridge right by the Transamerica Pyramid bldg. and close to Chinatown, North Beach (famous for restaurants and clubs), the Wharf and downtown. You can stay here for a week for a little over $200. Bathrooms are shared. I saw the staff cleaning up the place at least once a day if not more often. I still can't believe that such a place isn't booked up all the time.  , USA ()
5  Fantastic location between the Financial District and Chinatown, with North Beach, Embarcadero, Union Square, and the Montgomery BART station just a short walk away! The bus to Fisherman's Wharf stops opposite the road, the famous City Lights Bookstore is two blocks away, and loads of cheap chinese restaurants (such as the famous House of Nanking) are just round the corner. It's a great budget hotel, and while the rooms are small, they are warm, clean, and comfortable, and come fully equipped with bed, television, sink, closet, desk, lamp, and free use of the microwave, fridge, towels, soap provided in the room. Some rooms on the first floor even have access to the wireless internet network, which is usually only accessible near the front desk. It's in a safe and decent part of the city, even at night, and as a female traveling alone, I really appreciated the locked gate and having security people at the front desk twenty-four hours -- they made the place feel really safe. The restrooms/showers located in the hallway were comfortable and spotlessly clean the entire three weeks that I stayed there -- each is a single cubicle and there were a few on each floor, so i never had to wait to use the toilet. They also have a laundry room with coin-operated washers and dryers that guests can use. I paid about $30 a night for a single room with a double bed, and they gave me a better weekly rate when I extended my stay. Only downside is that the lift is currently being renovated, so you'll have to carry your suitcase up a short carpeted flight of stairs, and there isn't a common kitchen for guest usage. I would definitely stay here again, and would recommend it to all my friends! I enjoyed the peace and privacy.  ()
5  Really good location! Chinatown, North Beach (Little Italy) and Financial District are just around the corner. Really safe! There is a night security and you are feeling really safe and comfortable. No problems with "strange" people. Really clean! The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable. Also the shared bathrooms and restrooms are very clean and are cleaned about every hour. Really good price and people! We paid 25 bucks for the room per person per night, 50 together. They've been very friendly! Everything was perfect.  ()
5  I spent a night here when I first moved to San Francisco, and I have to admit it blew my mind. It's right in the middle of Chinatown, and about two blocks from City Lights Books, the Purple Onion, and about a million bars and take-out places. It's in a decent neighborhood and the place itself felt very safe. The rooms look exactly like they do in the pictures (mine didn't have any flowers though), and are very clean. The TV gets a ton of channels; I gave up coasting through them somewhere around seventy. There was also a phone, a microwave, and a fridge, but I think you might need some kind of key to use them. They only real downside is that the bathrooms are single use and in the hallway. Which I guess is better than dormitory style bathrooms in the hall, but still might make some people uncomfortable, though again the place is seems quite safe. Plus there are sinks in the room so you don't have to wait in line to brush your teeth at night. All of this for only thirty bucks (in July 2005) and a fifty dollar security deposit I got back without them even looking at the room first.  ()
4  You can't beat this place for the location and cost. It's within walking distance of North Beach and Chinatown. You can rent by the week and you get a nice clean room with a microwave, mini fridge and satellite TV for only about $200 a month. You're here to see the city, so don't spend all your money on a fancy hotel. This is a great alternative and in a very safe part of the city. Bathrooms are shared but very clean. This place is right by great cafes and nightlife!  ()
