Accommodations in our safe and friendly hotel are perfect for tourists, students, and international travelers on a budget.
Room Amenities include:
TV, hairdryer, iron and ironing board upon request, toiletries in room and more. All rooms are shared bath - we do not have private bathrooms.
Attractions:
Greenwich Village
Take a stroll through the famed, magnetic, and entertaining "Washington Square Park" located in the heart of the Village. Visit the various shops and boutiques the Village has in abundance.
Greenwich Village is known for its great minds and writers that have perpetuated and made Greenwich Village a "Social Mecca" for a number of years now. Greenwich Village is a diverse culture that is very uplifting and inspirational. Many bars and clubs appeal to everyone.
Chelsea
Many know Chelsea for its new art galleries as well as its alternative bars/night clubs. Located above Greenwich Village from 14th-23rd Streets to 12th Avenue-5th Avenue. Chelsea is mainly a residential neighborhood that offers a lot of great shopping throughout the whole area. From major chain stores to small stores, Chelsea offers it all. There are a lot of bars and night clubs in Chelsea as well. as a wide variety of fitness centers.
East Village
The East Village is perhaps the "Social Mecca" of New York City. Much different from Greenwich Village, the East Village offers a grungier, rock and roll type atmosphere. The East Village is home to many major acts of the past such as The Ramones, Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, as well as many punk bands that continue to play on. The Fillmore may not be alive anymore, but there are many great clubs such as Coney Island High, CBGB'S, and Irving Plaza (which is only 3 blocks from Hotel 17).
The East Village also has a wide variety of inexpensive (but delicious) restaurants, a variety of record stores that still sell collectable records, various bookstores, cool, trendy, clothing stores that sell everything from second-hand vintage to designer clothing. The East Village is perhaps the funkiest part in New York City to visit. The East Village is filled with people that are "socially graced", and they are living out a life that some might say could actually be put into a movie.
Gramercy Park
Gramercy Park is a safe and picturesque neighborhood centrally located in the heart of downtown Manhattan. Only one block west from Hotel 17, there is a vast array of restaurants that are extremely good. Hotel 17 overlooks "Stuyvesant Park" named after Peter Stuyvesant, which is a peaceful and beautiful park to sit and read in. There is a wide variety of great shops only a few blocks away from the hotel. A major subway stop is only 3 blocks from Hotel 17 which may take you pretty much anywhere in the city you may want to venture too and visit!

How is Hotel 17 rated on other websites?

It's quite a good hotel for this price, because prices are high in New York.

Hotel 17 is great value for the comparable low price. It's got style, is clean. My room was very quiet. Staff was friendly. Furthermore the location is great. It's close to public transport, but lots of sights are walkable. Some good restaurants and bars are near. The area is very safe , which is important for a single female.
I enjoyed my stay a lot and would come back again to Hotel 17.

Very good for travelling alone. Nice decorations, good location. I also liked that there was no line for the shared bathroom :)

The room was small, but it was well-located and neat. Also, the have a luggage room where you can keep your bags all day, and pick them up whenever you are ready to leave the city.

Reception staff were very helpful. Hotel is in an excellent location - great part of Manhattan that's close to everything with plenty of cafes / bars / shops in the vicinity.

No real WIFI connection. sucks!!!! All the rest was ok... one would expect for paying more then a $150 a night to get at least free, unlimited internet connection!!! Internet is there but cannot really be used as it will cut off after 300 KB of download... Suck as we are in 2011!!!

It has a good location for the price and it's a very pretty hotel, with old New York decor.

It has real character. The wallpaper may give you a headache but overall the decor is really fun and old school. The staff were very friendly and there was a porter to help with bags. There was an elevator so no need to worry about lugging suitcases up stairs and a luggage room if you need it. The check out time was 12pm which was really great as you had enough time to do more touristy things in the morning before you had to check out. The rooms were basic but had everything you needed and were clean. They gave you shampoo, soap and moisturiser which was handy, especially if you had been travelling for a long time before getting there and were in desperate need of such things! The room I was in had a shared bathroom so I was expecting it to be hostel standard but they were really nice! There are 2 bathrooms per floor with shower, sink and toilet in each. They were obviously cleaned every morning and were just as pleasant to use as having your own bathroom! For the money I paid I was very happy with this hostel. As a single female traveller it was important for me to feel safe in where I was staying and I definitely felt this here. It is in a nice area and it is easy to get to the subway station and just as easy to walk to areas. Being in a midtown area is a real advantage as you are able to get to uptown areas such as Times Square just as easily as you are able to get to down town areas like Ground Zero and the ferry to Ellis Island. I would really recommend staying here - I thought it was fantastic for the price!

it is a very charming old school hotel with great and very helpful staff.
everything was clean and the room was good, too.
Its for people who want to do stuff in the city and everything.
the area is quiet, but its just a couple of blocks to the east village and union square is close.
I definetly recommend it!

Nice interior design. Great location. Although bathrooms are shared, they are clean and spacious (and private in the sense that you lock them). Great value for a hotel in Manhattan.

Loved everything. Cozy and quaint, it's like Old New York. Old-style elevator, small narrow rooms but comfortable and unique!

There was a funny smell at the corridors and in my room. It is very difficult to meet new people.

I was very impressed with how clean everything was. ALL the time! It was warm, safe, fantastic location. If you need food/coffee quickly there is a 24 hour eatery 3 mins away :)2 Subways and bus stop 5 mins. Greenwich Village a nice walk away.I would stay again. I was alone and felt safe and secure here.

The only downside was there was a strange smell in the corridor, but not completely displeasing, just a bit odd. Overall it was good value, felt really safe and comfortable staying there and would stay there again!
